Don't Put God In The Box

The Bible has a way of bringing different thoughts into your mind each time you read through it. You can get a series of interpretations for just one chapter. That’s how profound the Word of God is.

Many times, we get familiar with the way God works, and we sometimes assume that if He has worked this way, then it’s likely for Him to use the same pattern. Now, that’s wrong; your experience of God’s doings should not lead you to conclude that He will use the same experience to work out miracles.

Today’s Personal Bible Study reminds me that our God is dynamic and that He works in mysterious ways. Many times, He works In ways we’ve never seen. The children of Israel left Egypt, and when the Egyptians were after them, it was with the rod of Moses that the Lord parted the red sea:

But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea” Exodus 14:16 NKJV.

The rod was the instrument used by God to part the red sea. Another time, when there were to cross the Jordan River, the Lord used a different method. Let’s see the Book of Joshua:

…and as those who bore the ark came to the Jordan, and the feet of the priests who bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water (for the Jordan overflows all its banks during the whole time of harvest), that the waters which came down from upstream stood still, and rose in a heap very far away at Adam, the city that is beside Zaretan. So the waters that went down into the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, failed, and were cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho” Joshua 3:15-16 NKJV.

God used different ways to provide solutions for the crossing of the red sea and the Jordan River. Similarly, each land they possessed or occupied was acquired through the help of God and their swords. But there was a new twist when they were to possess the land of Jericho.

‘Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets.

“When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.” Joshua 6:2-5 NIV.

Here, the children of Israel do not even lift a sword; just by marching around the town for six days with shouts and sounds, and on the seventh day, the wall of Jericho collapsed and the town was captured.

God can choose different ways, style, or method that seems best to Him to perform wonders. Do not assume that you already know the way He works.

When you say, “It will always happen this way, ” you put God in the box. Do not stand against God’s method because of what you know from the past.

Our God is dynamic; He can work in different ways. God works in diverse ways, according to the time of year and the season.
