Often, we fear for reasons that we should not. We fret over issues that can easily be taken care of, not by us for we have no power of our own, but by God who can grant us victory. Hallelujah! Let's say this was the situation of the Psalmist. Let's see the passage of scripture below:
"Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. [2] Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. [3] But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. [4] I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. [5] I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. [6] I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about".(Psalm 3:1-6).
This passage may just have given us an insight into the situation of the Psalmist at the time. Perhaps he talked about those who rose against and troubled him as some physical enemies or some conditions that were to him a problem.
It looks most likely that he was referring to people who had become a thorn in his flesh, saying he had no one to help him, even God. This could have made him so afraid or maybe he was at first but it's the confidence with which he speaks that is the emphasis here today.
Dear believer, regardless of the situation or the people who trouble you, can you like the Psalmist say that God is a shield for you and the lifter up of your head? Even if they say there's no help for you in God, will you say confidently that he hears when you cry?
Will you talk confidently of the Lord's sustenance? Will you be afraid of ten thousand people that have set themselves around against you? This was the confidence the Psalmist showed and this is the confidence you should have too, not in yourself or any other, but in God alone. The Lord bless his word in your heart. Amen.
Thought for the Day: It does not matter the situation, let your confidence be not in yourself or any other, but in God who alone can deliver.
