Christian Poetry: The King of Glory

"Crucify Him!, Crucify Him!"

These were words  coming from people who once screamed "Hosanna!"

This should have come as a rude shock to Jesus,

But it was no news to Him.

All so that the Scripture might be fulfilled.

All so that mankind could be saved.

All so that we could be redeemed from the curse of law.

The King of glory had to suffer shame.

The King of glory had to suffer reproach.

He was wounded for our transgressions,

Bruised for our iniquities,

The chastisement of our peace was upon Him,

And by His stripes we were made heal.

Those stripes tore deep into His skin.

But He winced and endured for a lost people.

A world of lost sinners.

A world where sins were pining,

A world where sin was the order of the day.

He endured so we could become sons,

Sons of the Immortal God.

At the cross, He said "it is finished"

Oh the devil! could have thought that was the end to it.

Truly, it was the end of the old and the beginning of the new.

Laid in a tomb, the disciples thrown into mourning.

For Rabbi, master, miracle worker now laid cold dead in the tomb.

He saved others, couldn't He have saved Himself?

The Healer was now dead!

How sad!

What a loss that was!

But alas!

That was no loss but gain.

His death was to bring life.

On the third day, He rose from the dead.

The grave could not hold Him captive.

He went to hell, took the keys and gave them to us-Co-heirs.

The King of glory rose!

Once dead but now risen!

Once forsaken but now celebrated!

Once scorned but now glorified!

Once betrayed but now the first born among the dead!

All glory to the son of God.

For He set in a new system!

The system of the new

That put an end to the old.

The system of freedom,

That put to end religion.

The system of liberty,

That put to end tradition.

The system of life,

That put to end death!

Now we must live in the reality of the new.

Now we must journey this journey of faith

With the mindset of a son, a co-heir with Christ.

For Christ has risen!

The King of glory has risen!

Death could not hold Him captive!

Hell had no power over Him.

For He is, the King of glory!
