5 Faith-Based Tips For Overcoming Fear and Stress

Stress involves being placed under some kind of pressure and believing that you do not have the abilities to manage the situation.

Fear is an emotional response to a perceived threat . It is a feeling of dread, apprehension and anxiety. Fear can be very unpleasant and debilitating

Fear and stress are common human experiences and can be very difficult to deal with. It is how we react to stress that determines whether it has a negative or positive impact on our lives. If fear and stress are not managed properly , they can have negative effects on both your physical and mental health.

The good news is that there are many different ways to overcome these negative emotions. Let us explore five faith based tips for overcoming fear and stress;

1. Draw strength from God’s Word

The Bible is full of wisdom, inspiration and encouragement. It can help us set aside our fears and worries and find peace. When we are faced with a fearful and stressful situation, we may feel overwhelmed and stuck. But when we look through the bible , we can sew things from God's perspective.

The word of the lord provides strength in the times of need. Psalms 46:1 -3 says, " God is our refuge and strength , a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear , though the earth should change and the mountains slip into the heart of the sea". God's word renews our mind and brings us peace . When we reflect on his promises and the good plans he has for us , it literally revives our spirit and fills is with hope and expectation . The book of Isaiah 41: 10 says , " So do not fear, for I am with you ; do not be dismayed , for I am your God . I will strengthen you and help you ; I will uphold you with my righteous hand".

This is just one of the many verses in the scripture that offer encouragement and strength .

2. Develop and deepen your trust in God

When we trust in God, we are able to rest in the knowledge that he is in control. Psalms 46:10 says, " Be still ,and know that I am God". This verse reminds us to stop trying to control things and to trust in God's sovereignty. When we do this, we can find peace and comfort in the midst of fear and stressful situations. The more we trust in God, the easier it becomes to rely on him during difficult times. When you trust in God, you know that no matter what happens , you are not alone . You can find comfort knowing that God is with you , even in the midst of fear. Deepening your trust in God helps you to feel less anxious and fearful. 1st Peter 5:7 tells us to , " Cast all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you".

3. Pray! Prayer is a powerful tool that can help you find peace and strength

Prayer helps us to focus on God rather than our fears and stress . Philippians 4:6-7 says, " Do not be anxious about anything , but in every situation , by prayer and petition , with thanksgiving , present your requests to God . And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus ". Surrender your fears and stress to God in prayer when you feel overwhelmed.

When we are stressed or afraid, it is easy to become consumed by our emotions and unable to see the big picture for our lives. Prayer help us to step back and gain a broader perspective on our lives. Psalms 112: 1 - 2says, " I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from ? My help comes from the lord, the maker of heaven and earth ". When we pray, we are reminded that God is in control and that he is our source of help. This will bring a sense of peace and calm even in the midst of fear and stress.

4. Surround yourself with a community of believers.

The body of Christ is meant to be a source of strength and support to believers. Having a community of believers around you can help you feel less isolated and alone when you are facing fear and stress. The book of Hebrews 10: 24 - 25 says, " Let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds ,not giving up meeting together , as some in the habit of doing , but encouraging one another." This part of the scripture reminds us that we are stronger together than when we are alone.

One way to surround yourself with a community of believers is to join a local church. The church of God is a great place to find fellowship and support from other believers . You can also join a small group within your church or connect with other believers online, attend christian conferences, read and interact with christian blogs and listen to christian podcasts. Also, don't forget about your friends and family - they can be a great source of support as well.

The scriptures has a lot to say about how to overcome stress and fear. It is important to remember that God is always with us. The Book of Joshua 1:9 says, " Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous . Do not be afraid ; do not be discouraged , for the lord your God will be with you wherever you go ". We can face any fear with God on our side.

Another important verse is Psalms 23:4," Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death , I will fear no evil, for you are with me ; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me".

The fear and stress we experience in this life is temporary. The Bible tells us that one day , we will experience perfect peace ,joy, and rest in the presence of God , where there will be no more pain, sorrow or suffering . No matter what we are going through now, we can look forward to the future and be rest assured that all things will be made new . This is the hope that we have in Christ and it's a hope that is worth clinging to, even in the darkest times.

5. Take time to Rest

It's easy to feel overwhelmed when you are constantly on the go. But taking time to rest and recharge is crucial for your mental and spiritual health. God designed us to need rest. So don't be afraid to take a break from your busy schedule and take some time to relax. It is impossible to think clearly when you are flooded with fear and it is very important to be spiritual equipped so that it does not paralyze you and cause you to make poor decisions and choices.

Conclusion

Fear works like a magnet and attracts or draws the very things we fear most. It comes from the devil, and it is a demonic spirit that is activated when we speak or believe words that are in agreement with the devil's lies. This is why we need to overcome fear by faith in God, his word, walking in integrity and faithfulness to the word of God.

Fear keeps you in the bondage of sin, addictions, and strongholds. It ultimately leads to physical and spiritual destruction. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of love and of a sound mind. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, with faith as your compass and the gospel as your guide, you are well equipped to overcome fear and stress.
