As believers, self-love is an important routine that we must practice just as Scriptures command us in Matthew 23:39 to “love your neighbours as yourself.”What this means is that you can only extend true love to your neighbour by the level at which you love yourself. To practically illustrate this verse, if you love yourself not to be hungry, you will not want your neighbour to be hungry, and if you love yourself enough to make progress in life, you will definitely seek the progress and goodwill of your neighbour.
This self-love is one reason why out of the 5 Love Languages, I always recommend two best ones to help you communicate love to yourself.
The first one is the Gifts language. When you communicate this language to yourself, you’d be able to buy yourself that thing you've always craved if you can afford it. So the rule is simple - don’t wait for someone to make you happy.
The Second and my most favorite personal love language is Words of Affirmation. You see, the power in our words is undeniable. The words we speak have the ability to shape our thoughts, emotions, and ultimately, our reality. Affirmations are a powerful tool that can help us harness the power of words to transform our lives. This is why in this article today, we'll explore the concept of affirmations, their benefits, and I will provide some Bible-based affirmations for your personal growth and development. So let’s get to it.
What are Affirmations?
For a believer, Affirmations are Spirit inspired, positive statements that are repeated to oneself, either out loud or in one's mind. They are designed to reprogram your subconscious mind with positive thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs. Affirmations can be used to overcome negative self-talk, build confidence, achieve personal goals and command results.
So, Spirit speaking, the power of affirmations lies in their ability to rewire our brains and transform our mindset. When we repeat affirmations, we:
1. Reprogram our Subconscious Mind
Our subconscious mind is responsible for our thoughts, emotions, behaviour and the results we get out of life. By repeating affirmations, we can reprogram our subconscious mind with positive thoughts and attitudes.
2. Build Confidence and Self-Esteem
Affirmations can help us develop a positive self-image and build confidence in our abilities.
3. Focus on Positive Outcomes
Affirmations help us focus on positive outcomes and solutions, rather than dwelling on negative thoughts and problems.
4. Attract Positive Energy
Affirmations can attract positive energy into our lives, helping us to manifest our desires and achieve our goals.
That said, have you ever looked in the mirror and admired God's creation standing before you? If you haven't, find a mirror now or get your phone's camera and just gush on God's handiwork. While doing that, please intentionally say the following Scripture inspired affirmations to yourself:
- I am beautifully, fearfully and wonderfully made. (Psalm 139:14) - Repeat this affirmation to build confidence in your unique identity and purpose.
- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13) - Use this affirmation to boost your confidence and faith in your abilities.
- I am loved and accepted just as I am. (Romans 5:8) - Repeat this affirmation to cultivate self-love and acceptance.
- I trust in the Lord with all my heart. (Proverbs 3:5) - Use this affirmation to build trust in God's plan and provision for your life.
- I am strong and courageous. (Joshua 1:9) - Repeat this affirmation to build resilience and courage in the face of challenges.
- I am delivered from fear! (fix in any other thing)
- All things work together for my good!
- I am not stranded at any point in my life!
- My week is blessed!
- I am unstoppable!
- I am always in alignment!
- I am surrounded by Angels!
- The works of my hands are blessed!
- Good things happen to, through and for me!
These and more that comes to mind are the affirming words to say to yourself! Don't join the bandwagon to say things the way they are. Say what you want to see. SPEAK FAITH!
How to Use Affirmations Effectively
Now, let’s get to talk about a few recommended ways to use affirmations effectively and get the most out of them. From personal experience, I suggest that you follow these tips:
1. Repeat Affirmations Regularly
Repeat your affirmations daily, either out loud or in your mind.
2. Use Present Tenses
Always use the present-tense forms of your language when creating your affirmations, as if the desired outcome has already occurred. By doing this, you’re calling forth things that be not as though they were after the order of Romans 4:17. What this does is to call forth the reality that you desire and truly, you will see it.
3. Focus on Positive Outcomes
Focus on positive outcomes and solutions, rather than dwelling on negative thoughts and problems.
4. Visualise your Affirmations
Like Vision boards, engaging a proper visualization technique will help to bring your affirmations to life and make them more effective. You can do this through sticky notes, affirmation journals, random affirmation scribbling or paintings and much more.
Affirmations are a powerful tool that can help us transform our lives and achieve our goals. By repeating positive statements, we can reprogram our subconscious mind, build confidence, and attract positive energy into our lives. Remember to use Bible-based affirmations to cultivate a positive and faith-filled mindset.
Conclusion
Don't wait for someone to tell you these words of affirmation because it might never happen. Well, maybe your Pastor declares over your life every Sunday but seal it by saying it yourself. I think the way Churches do it now, the Pastor says it while the congregation repeats after him.
If you want to see it, speak it! Shalom!
