Drama Minister, Dr. Korede Are (Baba Gbenro), Laid to Rest

On Friday, January 31, 2025, the Christian community gathered to bid farewell to a beloved drama minister, Dr. Korede Are, popularly known as Baba Gbenro.

The veteran actor, who rose to fame for his iconic role in the ABATTOIR movie series, was laid to rest amidst tears and tributes from his colleagues, friends, and family.

Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, a renowned gospel film producer and director, paid a glowing tribute to the late drama minister. "He served the Lord and ended well," Evangelist Bamiloye said. "He did what was committed into his hands with all his heart and mind. He finished his assignment in the Lord's presence and was called home to rest."

Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, who worked closely with Dr. Are on the ABATTOIR movie series, described him as a dedicated and passionate drama minister. According to him, "The Lord gave him (Baba Gbenro) a lifetime opportunity to play the role of Baba Gbenro, and he did it with all his heart, as if all his life depended on the role," The veteran drama evangelist also shared how the Holy Spirit took over the role of Baba Gbenro, making it a powerful tool for evangelism and discipleship. "People began to learn to be loving, caring, and hospitable like Baba Gbenro," Evangelist Bamiloye said. "Many intercessors began to check their attitudes and characters, comparing them with the status of the character of Baba Gbenro in ABATTOIR movies."

As the Christian community mourns the loss of Dr. Korede Are, Evangelist Mike Bamiloye has urged believers to take a cue from his life and ministry. "When do you know you will be called home?" Bamiloye asked. "Which movie role do you know will be your last role? So, serve the Lord with fear and trembling. Take the role the Lord gives you with all seriousness. May we all finish well. May we all get home and hear 'Well done, well come home, faithful servant.'" Dr. Korede Are's legacy will continue to inspire and impact lives through his iconic role as Baba Gbenro. May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
