While scrolling through TikTok sometime ago, I came across a post where one of the people I followed was narrating her recent prayers for the gift of men and the Holy Spirit ministering to her, that in as much as she is praying for the gift of men, she should also learn to remain humble because men can come in different classes. She stated the example where someone was asking, "Can anything good ever come out of Nazareth?" And due to the fact that the people didn't believe or weren't humble enough to admit that something good can come out of Nazareth, they missed out on the blessings of God just because they belittled Jesus.
She stated an example that sometimes when we need to enter a room, the person we have access to might not necessarily be in that room, but sometimes they hold the key to the door of that room, but a lot of people miss out because they've belittled the person.

This verse pointed me back to the chapter of the Bible I studied this morning, John 13, where Jesus was washing the feet of His disciples. This act shows humility because a proud person can't wash the feet of people he looked down on. John 13:14-17 NIV [14] Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. [15] I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. [16] Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. [17] Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. Jesus didn't lay down just an example, but also attached a blessing to it, because He knows the significance of this act.

The truth is, having the mind to wash each other's feet also comes with a sense of responsibility, like getting to know and dirty the others' feet, and because of shared beliefs, we still go ahead to wash their feet without feeling too clean to touch such dirty feet. John 13:34-35 NIV [34] “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. [35] By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Lastly, He left us with a commandment to love one another, just like He had loved us, because it's a crucial factor that holds the body of Christ together.

If we truly loved each other, we wouldn't take joy in the fall of a fellow believer; rather, we would pray for them and lend a helping hand in bringing them back into the household of faith.
This whole concept of humility and love has made me realize that our walk with God is not just about us, but about how we treat others. It's about being willing to serve, to love, and to care for those around us, even when it's hard or uncomfortable. When we choose to humble ourselves and love others, we open ourselves up to receive the blessings and favor of God, and we become a reflection of His love and character to the world around us.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the importance of humility, love, and service cannot be overstated. We must learn to remain humble and open to receiving blessings and guidance from unexpected sources. We must be willing to serve and love others, just as Jesus has loved us. By doing so, we will not only receive the blessings and favor of God, but we will also become a reflection of His love and character to the world around us, and we will fulfill the commandment of Jesus to love one another.
