5 Lessons from the life of Enoch

 a) Intimacy with God should be really what we seek.

The Bible makes no mistake and everything recorded in it is actually what we need.

Isn't it interesting and worth noting that when the descendants of Adam was been listed, Enoch was listed differently?

Everyone had their names mentioned; ages they had children and ages they died.

When it came to Enoch, it was recorded that he lived in fellowship with God.

Did others not do the same?

Maybe they did but wasn't as diligent or steady like that of Enoch.

So like them he lived and had children too, but didn't make that the entirety of his life.

Intimacy with God was important to Him, so important that it made him stand out.

It should make us ponder on what success looks like in God's eyes.

b) The length of our lives isn't everything

Bible says in Psalm 91 that with long life He will satisfy us and show us His salvation.

Who doesn't desire a long life?

But really to what end and for what?

Compared to the rest of the people listed in Genesis 5, Enoch had a shorter life span, 365 years old. However, it was spent in fellowship with God - the one thing that really matters most.

Of course we will do great things for God, but it must first flow out of intimacy with Him. Our time on earth would not be forever and nobody knows when it will end, so a steady walk with God must be the first priority.

c) A steady walk with God is possible.

From Enoch's story, we see that it's possible to not live out the pattern of rising and falling.

We actually can enjoy fellowship daily with God.

In spite of life's legitimate businesses, family and everything we have to show up to, it's possible not to get caught up.

It's possible not to be overwhelmed but daily renewed through a fellowship with God.

I don't think it was about a time that Enoch had set aside (even though he must have set aside time), but also a heart/mind that constantly places God above all else.

d) Enoch lived by faith

When he was mentioned in the book of Hebrews 11vs5, the Bible records that by faith Enoch walked with God.

Verse 6 then goes on to say that it is impossible to please God without faith, that anyone who comes to Him must believe that He is and a rewarder of those that seek Him diligently.

If Enoch didn't believe that God even exists, he wouldn't show up so steadily.

His fellowship with God was fueled by faith; faith that God exists, faith that He longs for fellowship with man, faith that He communicates, faith that He rewards those who seek Him, faith to experience the seemingly impossible.

It's interesting that God just took Enoch; as in he just disappeared, he didn't die.

I don't think he even had it in mind that something of such could happen to him, but that's like God.

He does exceedingly, abundantly, above all we can ever ask or think.

e) Our lives can be an example to others

As we live here on earth, our actions are telling a story. The kind of story it will be and the end, depends on our choices.

It's only wise to make the right choices, so as to hand over a legacy of faith to the next generation.

Some things are no longer fancy and even they are, they have become shallow and superficial. Many now see Christianity as a clique, like they're missing out because that's where everyone is running to.

It's good news but also a call to work, the work of raising disciples and they aren't raised on social media or by trends.

Disciples are raised by prayers, the study of God's word and men who are willing to show others how to do it.

May our lives mirror intimacy with God, such that others are inspired to do the same.
