How do you know when you are truly loved by someone?
It’s often evident in the way they treat you, the care they show, and the way they relate with you. Love is rarely hidden; it expresses itself through action.
In the same way, the surest measure of our love for God is not in what we say, but in how we obey Him.
Obedience: God’s Clear Expectation
The Bible makes it clear that obedience is not a casual suggestion but our sacred obligation to God. It is the foundation for keeping His charge, statutes, precepts, and commandments.
Romans 6:16 illustrates a powerful truth — we become slaves to the one we obey. If we submit ourselves to sin, it leads to death; but if we submit ourselves to God in obedience, it produces righteousness.
Here, “being a slave” does not mean imprisonment. Rather, it is a continual offering of ourselves to fulfil the will of another. When we continually yield to God’s will, we live in right standing with Him.
Obedience: A Safeguard, Not a Cage
Many view God’s commands as restrictive, but in reality, they are protective. Obedience is not about caging us; it is about keeping us from paths that could destroy us. It is an honourable expression of love — the fruit of a deep relationship with Him.
When our hearts are truly His, we do not see His words as burdens. Instead, we delight in the opportunity to please Him.
Obedience Without Delay
True obedience is prompt and wholehearted. It does not pause to analyse God’s instructions or measure them against human reasoning. Whether His command makes sense to us or not, we trust His wisdom and act in faith.
The Blessings That Follow
Obedience is always followed by reward. Scripture teaches that when we carefully follow His commands, God sets us high above the nations. Obedience brings life, favour, and joy.
Isaiah 1:19 reminds us that if we are willing and obedient, we will eat the good of the land. “The good of the land” represents abundance, peace, health, fruitful relationships, and every blessing God desires for His children.
The Heart of the Matter
Obedience is more than rule-keeping — it is a love-driven commitment to God. It is the key that unlocks His promises and the posture that keeps us in His favour.
When we obey, we align ourselves with His perfect will, and in doing so, we open the door to a life that overflows with His goodness.
