Delta’s Church-Robbing Syndicate in Police Custody

According to reports by PunchNG, the Delta State Police Command has arrested a man it described as the most wanted armed robber in the state, Emmanuel Emiowor, who specialised in attacking churches at night and carting away instruments and other items.

The police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this on Wednesday in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

He said, "Following complaints received from concerned residents on the activities of a syndicate that attacks churches at night, and carts away instruments and other items.

"The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed the DPOs to embark on an intelligence-led investigation and ensure that those suspects were rounded up and brought to book.

"In compliance with the CP's directives, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, the command received a distress call about an imminent armed attack on Dominican City Church along Polytechnic Road by Sticals Hotel.

"Swiftly, patrol teams from the Ogwashi-Uku Division, working closely with local vigilantes, led by the DPO, CSP Israel Okomoyon, intercepted a gold-coloured Toyota Sienna Space Van, Reg. no: EFR-150-XB, with two occupants identified as Emmanuel Emiowor, 21, and Noah Philip, 20."

He stated that a search of the suspects and the vehicle yielded the following exhibits: one pump action gun, three single-barrelled locally made guns, one locally fabricated revolver gun, iron rod (used in breaking church doors).

"Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of a syndicate that specialised in attacking churches. Some looted properties have already been recovered. Both suspects, along with the exhibits, are in custody, and a discreet investigation has commenced."

He reaffirmed the unwavering determination of the command to rid the state of criminal elements, emphasising that Delta State would never be allowed to become a haven for crime.
