Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has hailed the judiciary and security agencies for securing the conviction and death sentence of four persons found guilty of the June 5, 2022 terror attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo.
As reported by The Hope Newspapers, the governor’s position was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan
The governor described the judgment as a triumph of justice and the rule of law, saying it represents a significant step towards delivering justice for victims of the tragic incident that claimed the lives of innocent worshippers and left several others injured.
Aiyedatiwa noted that the successful prosecution of the suspects reflected the commitment and diligence of the prosecution team, the painstaking efforts of investigators and the courage displayed by the judiciary in ensuring that justice was served.
According to him, the verdict sends a strong warning that individuals who engage in acts of terror and violence against innocent citizens will ultimately face the full consequences of the law, irrespective of the time required to secure justice.
The governor also commended the people of Owo and members of the Catholic community for their resilience and commitment to peace despite the pain and trauma occasioned by the attack.
He assured residents of the state that his administration would continue to work closely with security agencies to enhance intelligence gathering, strengthen security around public places and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
While acknowledging that the judgment cannot reverse the loss suffered by the victims and their families, Aiyedatiwa said it offers a measure of closure and reinforces confidence in the justice system.
He also prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives in the attack and sought divine comfort for the bereaved families.
