Rev. Dachomo Alleges Fresh Death Threats, Bounty on His Life

The Regional Chairman of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, Rev. Ezekiel Dachomo, has raised an alarm over what he described as renewed death threats and an increased bounty placed on his life by individuals and groups he alleged to be Islamist extremists and terrorists.

Dachomo, a vocal cleric known for speaking about alleged attacks on Christians in Plateau State and the wider Middle Belt, said on Monday via his X handle that he and three other clerics have been marked for killing for what he described as “speaking the truth.” He claimed that the reward for anyone who kills them had been increased and that calls were being made for him to be targeted.

The cleric, who recently returned to Nigeria after travelling to India for medical treatment, said he was shocked that the threats had intensified during his absence. He alleged that those behind the threats were encouraging violence against him and others on the list.

According to him, his only “offence” is speaking out about the situation affecting his community, adding that he remains committed to continuing his advocacy despite the risks. He said he is aware of the danger but insisted he cannot abandon those he speaks for.

He further described the emotional toll of the violence he says he has witnessed, including widows mourning their husbands and children asking questions about missing or killed parents. He said these experiences have strengthened his resolve to keep speaking out.

Dachomo also referenced his faith, saying his courage is sustained by his religious beliefs and biblical passages, including 2 Timothy 1:7 and Matthew 5:10, which he cited as sources of encouragement in times of fear and persecution. He added that while he experiences fear as a human being, he believes he is guided and protected by God.

He maintained that despite threats, intimidation, and the alleged bounty on his head, he will continue to stand with affected communities and speak on their behalf, saying his life remains in God’s hands.

The Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) is a Christian denomination with a significant presence in northern Nigeria, including Plateau State, where religious and communal tensions have remained a recurring concern in recent years.
