Sack Security Chiefs if Terrorism Persists after 90 days - Pastor Adeboye

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has called on the Federal Government to give Nigeria’s service chiefs a 90-day ultimatum to eliminate terrorists or resign from office.

Pastor Adeboye made the call in a video shared on his X handle on Tuesday, 2nd June, 2026, expressing concerns over the worsening security situation in the country and urging urgent action against perpetrators of violence.

According to him, security chiefs should be held accountable for measurable results in the fight against terrorism. He said, “You can only advise the Commander-in-Chief. You cannot command him, because if you command the Commander-in-Chief, then you become the commander of the Commander-in-Chief. That doesn’t make sense.

“But I’ve tried, and God is my witness. I don’t want to take much of your time. He continued. “What should we do now? I’m speaking to you as my children. If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say quietly to our government: move fast and tell our security chiefs, ‘Get rid of these terrorists within 90 days or resign.’”

Pastor Adeboye also urged the government to go beyond targeting terrorists by going after their sponsors, regardless of their influence or status.

“When giving orders to the service chiefs this time around, we should make it clear that they are not only to eliminate terrorists; they should also eliminate their sponsors, no matter how influential they may be,” he said.

Adeboye recalled that a former Nigerian President had once issued a similar directive to security chiefs, though he said the order was not fully implemented after the deadline elapsed.
He recalled, “There was a president, unfortunately he is dead now, who called the service chiefs together and said, ‘I give you three months. Get rid of all these Boko Haram people or resign.
“He ran with that advice, but he did not follow it through because he gave the order as Commander-in-Chief. However, the security operatives moved fast.”
Adeboye said he later visited the late president after the deadline had passed, noting that the experience informed his current recommendation.

Pastor Adeboye’s remarks come amid renewed concerns over terrorism, banditry and kidnappings in several parts of the country, with growing calls for stronger security measures.
