The six-day marathon concluded on Monday, June 29, after Habibat spent 144 consecutive hours reading the Scriptures aloud in line with Guinness World Records regulations, which permit only brief breaks at specified intervals.

The initiative, themed “144 Hours in the Word,” was conceived not merely as a record attempt but as a campaign to encourage believers to cultivate a deeper love for God’s Word and make consistent Bible study a central part of their Christian walk.

Habitat reportedly began preparing for the challenge in June 2022, dedicating several years to developing the physical stamina, mental resilience, and spiritual discipline required for the demanding feat.

The marathon commenced on June 22 at Novotel, Port Harcourt, where family members, friends, church members, and supporters gathered throughout the six-day event to encourage her. The challenge also attracted significant attention online, with many Christians following her progress through regular updates on social media.

Habibat is a member of Summit Bible Church, Port Harcourt. Speaking about the initiative, the church’s Senior Pastor, Dr. Andy Osakwe, described the marathon as far more than an attempt to secure a place in the record books.

According to him, the project was a spiritual assignment intended to glorify God while inspiring Christians around the world to rediscover the transformative power of the Scriptures through intentional reading and meditation.

Throughout the marathon, photos and videos showed Habibat reading from a lectern as digital timers displayed the remaining hours, symbolising her steady progress toward completing the challenge.

Although the reading marathon has now been completed, the achievement remains subject to the official verification process by Guinness World Records, which will review the submitted evidence before confirming whether a new record has been established.

Habibat’s feat adds to the growing number of remarkable record attempts by Nigerians. In 2024, Samson Ajao earned Guinness World Records recognition for the longest marathon reading aloud, completing an impressive 215-hour reading marathon and surpassing the previous record of 124 hours.
