Pastor Adeboye Deserves Fair Hearing on Security Remarks - Pastor Odesola - New Man Media

The Continental Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Continent 3, Pastor Johnson Funsho Odesola, has called for a fair and balanced assessment of Pastor Enoch Adeboye’s recent comments on Nigeria’s security challenges, urging critics to consider the full context of the revered cleric’s remarks rather than isolated clips circulating online.

The appeal follows widespread reactions to Pastor Adeboye’s comments during a recent event in Washington, D.C., where he addressed the nation’s worsening insecurity and spoke about the constitutional responsibilities of President Bola Tinubu as Commander-in-Chief. His remarks generated mixed responses on social media, with some interpreting them as a defence of the President. (Punch Newspapers)

Responding to the criticism, Odesola said many commentators had focused on selected portions of the message while overlooking its broader context. According to him, Pastor Adeboye neither dismissed the country’s security concerns nor attempted to excuse the challenges Nigerians continue to face.

He noted that the General Overseer openly acknowledged the gravity of insecurity across the country and expressed concern over the spread of terrorism, banditry and kidnappings into several parts of Nigeria. He also revealed that Pastor Adeboye had encouraged stronger action against those responsible for financing insecurity and had advocated measurable accountability for military leadership.

Odesola further emphasised that Christians and the public should evaluate public statements with fairness, cautioning against drawing conclusions from short video excerpts detached from their original context.

The development comes amid renewed conversations about the role of Christian leaders in addressing national issues. While church leaders often speak on matters affecting society, their comments can sometimes generate differing interpretations, particularly when discussed on social media.

For believers, the incident serves as a reminder of the biblical call to be “quick to hear, slow to speak” (James 1:19) and to pursue truth with wisdom and discernment. Christians are encouraged to weigh issues carefully, avoid hasty judgments, and engage in conversations with grace while continuing to pray for Nigeria’s leaders and for lasting peace across the nation.
