Don’t Marry Older Women, Pastor Sarah Omakwu Warns Young men

Pastor Sarah Omakwu Warns Young Men Against Marrying Older Women

Senior Pastor of Family Worship Centre (FWC), Abuja, Sarah Omakwu, has sparked debate after cautioning young men against marrying women who are significantly older than them.

The cleric made the remarks during a recent sermon while discussing relationships, marriage and the challenges that can arise from significant age differences between couples.

According to Omakwu, the growing trend of younger men marrying older women should be approached with caution, describing it as a potential “red flag.”

“I’m seeing young men these days marrying women that are older than them. That is a red flag,” she said.

The pastor acknowledged that some people may point to previous generations where women married younger men, but argued that circumstances and societal expectations have changed.

She said, “You will say, ‘My parents did it, so it’s not a big deal.’ That was that generation when women were patient.”

Omakwu also addressed young men who deliberately avoid women within their age bracket because they consider them immature.

She argued that such a mindset could itself be a sign of immaturity, questioning how a younger man would navigate a marriage in which his wife is considerably older.

“That woman go look you for face tell you wetin your mama no fit tell you,” she said.

The cleric added that some young men who complain that women their age are “too childish” may need to examine their own level of maturity.

“Those of you that say, ‘My agemates are too childish,’ you too, you’re childish,” she said.

Omakwu’s comments have generated mixed reactions, with social media users expressing differing views on whether an age difference should be considered a significant factor when choosing a marriage partner.

The pastor, however, appeared unfazed by the possibility of criticism over her position, stressing that she was expressing her personal opinion.

“Anyway, it’s my opinion. Do whatever you want with it,” she said.

She concluded with a humorous response to potential criticism, saying that although people could criticise her online, they could not literally subject her to the crucifixion.

Omakwu’s comments have consequently renewed discussions about age differences, compatibility, maturity and expectations in Christian marriage.
