The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Kehinde Makinde, popularly known as Pastor Kenny, over an alleged scheme involving a purported government-sponsored pilgrimage to Jerusalem.
Makinde was arrested in Ibadan, Oyo State, after allegedly collecting ₦2.5 million from 18 members of a fellowship in Saje, Adatan, Ogun State, according to the police.
The suspect reportedly told the fellowship members that he was organising a government-sponsored trip to Jerusalem and allegedly promised each participant ₦2 million.
The arrangement reportedly raised concerns after the promised pilgrimage failed to materialise, leading to the involvement of the police.
The Ogun State Police Command subsequently arrested Makinde and commenced an investigation into the allegations.
The case highlights the need for Christians and religious organisations to exercise caution when participating in purported pilgrimage, fundraising or other financial schemes, particularly where claims of government sponsorship or guaranteed financial benefits are involved.
The allegations remain subject to investigation, and the suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.
