Charismatic Bishops Endorse Tinubu for 2027, Say They Will Stand With Him Beyond Election

The Charismatic Bishops Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The group endorsed Tinubu for a second term during its 2026 Synod on Wednesday, September 9.

The endorsement was announced by the President-General of the conference, Archbishop Leonard Bature Kawas.

Kawas said the decision followed the bishops’ assessment of Tinubu’s administration, particularly his appointments and what they described as his support for Christians.

The Archbishop acknowledged the controversy surrounding Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 presidential election but said the President had not shown nepotism in his appointments.

He also claimed that Tinubu had supported the emergence of Christian governors across the country.

“He did not only appoint at the national level; he also supported the emergence of Christian governors to be the majority in Nigeria,” Kawas said.

The bishop also praised the All Progressives Congress (APC) for appointing what he described as a born-again Christian and preacher as the party’s national leader.

Kawas said the bishops would continue to support Tinubu through prayers and advocacy for programmes they believe will benefit the country.

“We stand with the President today, and as long as he’s willing to be our President and even come in 2027, we will still be standing with him,” he said.

He then declared that the conference had endorsed Tinubu for the 2027 presidential election.

The endorsement comes as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, with different groups and political stakeholders already taking positions on the next presidential contest.
