More than three decades after Agbara Nla became one of the most recognisable titles in Nigerian Christian filmmaking, the legendary story is returning to the big screen with the release of the official trailer for Agbara Nla: The Return.
The official trailer was released six days ago, on September 2, 2026, by Joshua “JayMikee” Mike-Bamiloye, who shared the trailer online alongside the announcement that the film will hit cinemas nationwide on October 1, 2026.
The trailer has since generated renewed interest in the faith-based production, particularly among viewers familiar with the original Agbara Nla, which was released in 1993.
The new production revisits the world of the original film while introducing a new generation of filmmakers and actors to the story.
A New Generation Takes Over
While veteran Christian filmmaker Mike Bamiloye remains closely connected to the project and reprises his iconic role as Isawuru, the new film is directed by his sons, Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua “JayMikee” Mike-Bamiloye.
The production represents a generational continuation of the Bamiloye family's long-standing contribution to Christian filmmaking in Nigeria.
From a 1993 Classic to the Big Screen
The original Agbara Nla, produced by Mount Zion Film Productions, became a defining title in Nigerian Christian cinema, particularly for its dramatic portrayal of spiritual warfare and the conflict between the forces of darkness and the power of God.
Thirty-three years later, Agbara Nla: The Return is bringing the story into a new cinematic era.
According to NTA, the film is scheduled for a nationwide cinema release on October 1, 2026.
The production is a collaboration involving Mount Zion Film Productions, Circuits and Sozo Films, with the film set for theatrical distribution across Nigeria.
The Story Returns
Agbara Nla: The Return takes audiences back into the spiritual world established by the original production, while presenting the story with a contemporary cinematic treatment.
The release is expected to appeal both to viewers who grew up with the 1993 classic and younger audiences encountering the Agbara Nla story for the first time.
With the official trailer now out and the cinema date confirmed, anticipation is building ahead of October 1, 2026, when Agbara Nla: The Return officially arrives in cinemas nationwide.
