Minister Mercy Nnenda Blessed (Nee Chinwo) was born on the 5th of September 1990. She is the first child and the first daughter of six children. Mercy Chinwo is a Nigerian gospel musician, actress, and songwriter. She hails from Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Mercy Chinwo started her musical career at a very early age. She started music in her church’s children’s choir and later migrated to the adult choir. Mercy Chinwo was brought up by her mother after she lost her dad at a very young age.
Mercy Chinwo was into acting before she swerved full time into music. She got into limelight in 2012 after winning Season 2 of a popular talent show – Nigerian Idol. In 2013, she landed her first film role in Yvonne Nelson’s film titled, “House of Gold”.
Mercy Chinwo proceeded in her musical career by voicing to musical projects by top Nigerian gospel music artistes such as Sammie Okposo, Joe Praize, Buchi, Chris Morgan, and Preye whom she featured in a single “Eze”.
In 2017 Mercy Chinwo’s big move came after EeZee Concepts, a gospel music label owned by Mr. Ezekiel ThankGod, endorsed her. Mercy Chinwo released her first single, “Testimony”, in 2015, and another single “Igwe” in 2016. Her first album was in 2018, “The cross my Gaze”. The album was a collection of soul-uplifting gospel songs that are still trending in the Christian space. Mercy Chinwo has collaborated with international artists. She did a remix of her most popular song, “Excess love” with JJ Hairston, Youthful Praise, and The Gratitude.
Mercy Chinwo’s Excess love earned her nationwide recognition and earned her a spot as one of the best female vocalists in the Nigerian Gospel music industry. Mercy Chinwo made another strong mark in the gospel music industry with her single, “Akamdinelu”. The song currently has more than a million streams across music streaming platforms.
She released her second album “Satisfied”, a 13-track album, on 3rd July 2020. The album contained hit tracks such as, “Baby Song”, and “Na you dey reign”. Mercy Chinwo also holds copyrights for singing songs including Testimony, Igwe, Excess Love, No More Pain, Chinedum, Ome ka Nna ya, Regular, Power Belongs To Jesus, Imenem, Incredible God, Eze, Love Expression, Inhedinma, Receive it, With All My Heart, Power Belongs to Jesus, I Am, Responsibility, Receive, Oh Jesus! and Bor Ekom among others.
Mercy Chinwo has bagged various notable awards since the beginning of her career in 2012. She won the Nigerian Idols (2012), Best Gospel Artiste (2018 CLIMAX Awards), Africa Gospel New Artiste of the Year (2019), Africa Gospel Awards Festival (AGAFEST), Africa Gospel Female Artiste of the Year (2019), Africa Gospel Awards Festival (AGAFEST), Africa Gospel Song of the Year “Excess Love” (2019) – Africa Gospel Awards Festival (AGAFEST). She was also nominated at the Maranatha Awards USA Awards 2020.
Mercy Chinwo is happily married to her heartthrob . They duo were officially announced her engagement to Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa on Thursday, June 23rd, 2022. Together, they are blessed with a son,, Charis Nduka Blessed
