If someone told you that you could be get rich just because you trusted him, how would you feel? Imagine he said, "I know you have been this way for a while now, and it's as though you need a change in your life, but that change would only come if you can trust that I am able to bring you the change you need. Just trust me". In that case, trusting the person won't be a problem, would it?
What if on the other hand, he said to you, " I am able to bring you the change you need, and I have told you to trust me as well. I hope you do because only then can the change come, and if you don't, the change will not come. You will only remain this way". Will you rather remain that way or just simply trust that the person will do what he has promised?
We will by the grace of God be looking into the scripture today, and in line with the illustrations above, we'll be considering the reward for trust. Shall we look at the verses of scripture below,
Thus saith the Lord ; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord . [7] Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord , and whose hope the Lord is. [8] For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit". (Jeremiah 17:5,7,8).
From the verses of scripture, we can see vividly that there are two categories of people, aren't they? Those who trust in men, make flesh their arms, and their hearts are far from God; the other category are the set of people who trust the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
Similarly, aside the fact that there are two kinds of persons, it is also evident that there are rewards apportioned to them based on whom they trust. First we have to understand that for the first category, the scripture says they are cursed, why? Because they put their confidence in man, and their heart is not with the Lord. This is a reminder from the Lord through his word that to trust a man, depend on him, and not on God is futile. It will only bring disappointment, and pain(cursed be the man, meaning that disappointment, and pain will be his reward).
This is our focus however, that those who trust the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is, are blessed. They will not be disappointed, the Lord will at all times reward them with blessings untold; just like a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads its roots by the river, with its leaf being green, and shall not be dry, nor barren. Isn't this amazing?
As we conclude this today, I leave you with something to meditate upon; if not trusting the Lord has a reward, and if trusting him also has got a reward, and having seen from the scripture the rewards, will you today decide to trust the Lord at all times or not? The Lord help us all. Amen.
Thought for the day: It pays to trust the Lord for blessed is that man whose trust is in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
