Not Ashamed: Gospel Today Devotional - 11th November, 2023

Jesus speaking in the scripture said, that the words he spoke were not just words but he called them spirit. He said they are not just spirit but they are also life. It is not even as though they have the ability to give life, the words are life themselves. We have come to understand over, and over again, and that by the teaching of scripture that the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper even than a two edged sword, right? Praise God.

Not Ashamed: Gospel Today Devotional - 11th November, 2023

Can I ask a question quickly? If you were told that your words have the ability to produce any result you'd want them to, wouldn't you be glad to try it out? Let's say just by speaking a word, you could create something, you could change a particular situation, would you be ashamed to speak such words? Would you find it difficult to speak? Of course not, even if not for any reason, for the very fact that the words you speak can do that which you desire, you would speak regardless.

There's a very great lesson we have to learn today, and that from the scripture as well. It is to the advantage of the believer to know that there's power in the truth that he has come into, and with such knowledge, he should seek to reach out to others as well. The passage of scripture under consideration is seen below,

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek."(Romans 1:16).

This is the apostle Paul speaking right here in his epistle to the saints in Rome. This was a man who not only had come to know about the fact the he was saved but at the same time, someone who had come to a point where he knew that the power to save anyone was only in the gospel of Christ. Little wonder he wasn't afraid to speak as at whenever, and wherever to whoever as well. He was not afraid, even when his life was threatened, he still did not fret, neither was he ashamed to declare the message.

First he says, For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ(well, it's possible I may be ashamed of everything but not the gospel of Christ. Not that which has to do with the Lord Jesus, and all that talks about him). Why wasn't he afraid? Because he knew the gospel was the power of God, and it's still the power of God unto salvation to those who believe ( meaning that God through the gospel is able to save as many as believe in the Lord Jesus), and although it is first to the Jews, and then to the Gentiles, as recorded in the passage above, it's equally for all today without preference.

Just like the apostle Paul, when we come to understand the power that saves men, we will gladly, and boldly seek to communicate the gospel of Christ to all, such that those who believe will be saved. The Lord has called us into this assignment of proclaiming the gospel to men. It is however my prayer that we all come the point where we do not feel ashamed to declare this gospel message, for it is the power of God unto salvation to all who believe. The Lord help us to be doers of his word in Christ's name. Amen.

Thought for the day:

You have been commissioned to declare the gospel of Christ as a believer to others. Do not be ashamed to do so.
