God is Faithful: Gospel Today Devotional - 21st December, 2023

 KNOWING GOD SERIES

The reason anyone would decide to wait patiently for another to fulfill his or her promise could be as a result of the fact that over time the person has proven himself to be faithful. It could be that over time that same person has kept to his words or promises. It is no longer I hope he would do it but rather I trust him to do it. This is the foundation for trust. This is the reason many would dare to wait patiently on another to do to them or give to them that which they have promised them. Glory to God.

God is Faithful: Gospel Today Devotional - 21st December, 2023

This series in itself has opened our eyes to quite a lot I believe, and God in his wisdom has decided to reveal such truth to us at such a time as this. It is my prayer however that as we continue, we will get to know more about God than we have learnt in the previous lessons. It was stated in the previous lessons that the attributes of God are all connected. They cannot be separated from God neither can God be separated from his attributes because God is his attribute or trait and his attribute is him. He cannot act in ways that are against his nature because his nature defines him. Hallelujah!

Today by the help of God, we shall be looking at another one of God's attribute; that which defines God as God. We have by the help of God seen some before now and it has really been a discovery. However, for today, we shall be looking at the faithful nature of God. It is my prayer that the Lord himself will help us. The passages of scripture under consideration are seen below,

"Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations" (Deuteronomy 7:9). "God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord" (1 Corinthians 1:9).

The knowledge of God we have is what determines our experience of him. This is that which this month's study is founded upon. If you do not know about someone as being reliable, dependable, trustworthy, will you ever relate with such a person as one? The answer is no. It is the knowledge you have of such a person as a result of the fact that he has proven himself overtime to be dependable that makes you trust him and without this knowledge in you, it will be very difficult to trust him. Praise God.

When you say one is faithful, it means such a person is worthy of trust (trustworthy), reliable, dependable. So, when we say God is faithful in nature, we mean to say that God is worthy of our trust, he can be depended upon, and that we can rely on him. It is against his nature to breach a promise, to go against his word, to fail or lie. It is against his nature to disappoint, why? Because he is faithful. The reason that promise will come to pass, why his word will not fail is because God is faithful in nature. It also means that God is ever committed to bringing to pass that which he has promised to do. The scripture above affirms this, that God is faithful.

The first passage says to know therefore (that is to have this knowledge of God in you) that he is a faithful God who keeps covenant, and mercy with them that love him, keep his commandments to a thousand generation. The second passage supports the first saying again that God is faithful, and scripture cannot lie. This is to let you know that you belong to a God who  can be trusted, depended on, and as a result, you can be confident in this, that he would bring to pass that which he has promised. Also, since God who is our Father is faithful in nature, as children of God, we should also be worthy of trust, and reliable. The Lord help us all in Jesus' name. Amen.

Thought for the day

It is against the nature of God to breach a promise, to lie, to fail, to disappoint because he is faithful in nature (reliable, trustworthy, committed to doing or bringing to pass what he has said).
