God is Spirit: Gospel Today Devotional - 2nd December, 2023

KNOWING GOD SERIES

The series knowing God has been eye opening, isn't it? And I am persuaded that we have been able to see one or two things more about God. The fact that God is not a man as the case may imply. This is going to be a wonderful series indeed as we would be learning more about God together, and I trust that the Lord through his word will enrich our hearts greatly. Amen. In the previous lesson, we got to know as the scripture teaches that God is not a man, and that because of this, there's no way he can lie, or repent of lying because it is against his nature to do so, right?

God is Spirit: Gospel Today Devotional - 2nd December, 2023

In the previous study, it was stated that if a child should go to the bus stop so as to pick someone, he has to be sure, and to know indeed who the person he is to pick is, right? And we also stated that if this is not done, he would either come back with no one or the wrong person, right? Let's say for instance, the child was told that the the person he is to pick from the bus stop is not a man, then it means the person is a woman, right? If he was told that the person in question isn't light in complexion, then it means the person is dark, isn't it?

What do we have to learn from this? It means that if we know for sure what something is or who someone is, we may by default or by some explanation tell what something is not or as the case may imply, who someone is not. Knowing who you are reveals to you who you are not. Praise God! This is the emphasis of today's study, having established that God is not a man, and as a result would not lie, nor repent from lying, the question we are now left with is this, who then is God? The passage of scripture below answers the question.

"God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." (John 4:24).

Having seen in the previous study that God is not a man, and with the desire to know of a truth who God truly is, it is expedient that we take a closer look into the person of God. God is not a man, who is God? God is a Spirit. This answers the question of many who care to know if of a surety God exists. If he does, why don't we see him, talk to him, and all. It's simple, and it is because you don't deal with God the same way you deal with man, God is a Spirit, he is not a man.

Now this is it, man also is Spirit, but man has a body. The spirit (man) dwells in a body which is corruptible, susceptible to fleshly desires, and lust, prone to struggles, and inordinate affections, and all this came as a result of the fall. God unlike man does not dwell in a body. He is Spirit. He does not struggle to be holy, he is holy. He does not struggle with fleshly desires, and lusts. In him is no corruption, and in him is no guile. He is pure of a truth, and because he is a Spirit, those who worship him must worship in spirit (in the genuineness of their regenerated hearts, in the consciousness of the fact that God is Spirit), and in truth ( not with any form of defilement, not faking it).

This is another truth, because man fell, it became impossible for man to worship God in spirit, and in truth. However, anyone who is begotten of him can worship him in spirit, and truth. God is a Spirit, and if anyone must worship him the way he desires to be worshipped, such a person must be born of the Spirit. He must born of God, why? It takes only those who are born of the Spirit to worship the Spirit (God) in spirit, and in truth. Now you know God is Spirit, and are to worship him in spirit, and in truth, have you been begotten of the Spirit? If yes, do you worship him in the genuineness of your mind, and in the consciousness of the fact that he is a Spirit? If no, why not today? The one who is a Spirit seeks that you worship in spirit, and in truth, will you give heed to him? The Lord cause his words to sink deeply into our hearts. Amen.

Thought for the day:

God is a Spirit, and only those who have been begotten of him can worship the way he desires ( in spirit, and in truth) for he seeks such to worship him. Have you been begotten of the one who is a Spirit (God)?
