God's Word Does not Fail: Gospel Today Devotional - 15th December, 2023

KNOWING GOD SERIES

How would you feel if you knew that you could rely on the words of your parent each time they said a thing to you that they would do as they have promised to? That would be something to be joyful about, right? Sadly, this is seldom the case as many times, men fail to bring their words to pass. They find it very easy to say things but to fulfill it most times is usually difficult. Can you in a minute or two just pause to count the number of times people have promised, and then failed you? How many times did you count? It brings back memories, right? I could not agree less.

God's Word Does not Fail: Gospel Today Devotional - 15th December, 2023

The truth is we are all victims of this. Sometimes, you get your hope raised because someone made a statement that seemed to be the light you had been expecting only to find out that the statement was only meant to make you happy temporarily. This is the reason why the scripture would advise to trust in God, and to put confidence in him than we put in men, why? Because men naturally would fail to bring that which they say to pass except otherwise helped of God or influenced by him. Praise God! This however is not what is seen in God. Although the words of men may fail, God's word never fails. It has never failed, and it will never fail.

This is that which today's study seeks to reveal to you, and I. That we can trust every word of God over our lives. We can trust every word that comes out of his mouth. God is too faithful to break his promise. God is too faithful to fail. What makes us so sure? Let's consider the passage of scripture below,

"For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: [11] So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it" (Isaiah 55:10-11).

Here, we see God speaking for himself. It would have been different if someone else had made the statement on behalf of God. This couldn't have made it less true for the scripture contains truth only. But then, it shows to you, and I how precious the word of God is to him. The word of God is such that once it is said cannot be taken back until the reason for which it is said is fulfilled. This is the reason we say that the word of God cannot fail. It does not fail. It has not failed. The word of God will not fail, not now, never! It remains ever true, potent, and assuring. Every word he speaks should be taken as it is. God's word does not fail.

Look at what the Lord says concerning his word, we have seen it rain many times, haven't we? Does the rain after dropping return back to the firmament? Does it rain upward after raining downward? The answer is no. God himself uses this to teach about his word that just as you do not see the rain go back to where it came, but that when it comes, it comes for a purpose, that is, to water the earth such that the one who sows may have produce to himself, and that the earth may yield her increase so also is his word. In essence, God himself was saying my word does not fail. It will at all times fulfill what I say it should.

When God speaks his word,  his word delivers as it has been sent. It does not return back to him void. Not at all. He spoke to Abraham concerning Isaac, he spoke to Joseph concerning his life, he spoke to Noah concerning the flood, he spoke to Moses concerning the deliverance of his people, he spoke through the prophets even before the coming of Christ concerning his birth, death, burial, resurrection, etc. Everything he said came to pass. No one jot of his word fell to the ground. If he was faithful to his word then, he is still faithful to it now. God has not changed from being God. His word does not fail. Has he said something to you, concerning you or through you to another, it will be even as he has said. It is against his nature to say a thing and not bring it to pass. God's word does not fail. May this word remain ever fresh in our hearts. Amen.

Thought for the day: The word of God has never failed, and his word will never fail. He is committed to bringing every of his word to pass as long as he has spoken it. Only believe.
