He is Never too Late: Gospel Today Devotional - 4th January, 2024

The eleventh chapter of John records another notable sign carried out by our Lord, and Saviour Jesus Christ. He was not there at the time it all happened but it was to the glory of God that it did happen. It was about how the dead was raised. Who could have thought that such a miracle could be carried out at the time but it was, and the name of the Lord was glorified. Meanwhile Lazarus had been sick for a long time, and the news had gotten to Jesus before then but he didn't go until Lazarus died. One could have thought just as some persons thought that it would have been possible for Jesus to heal Lazarus while he was sick, why allow him die? If he had all power, why couldn't he heal Lazarus of his sickness?

He is Never too Late: Gospel Today Devotional - 4th January, 2024

Jesus staying with his disciples at the time didn't tell them of Lazarus' sickness either, and waited till after he died before he made them realise that Lazarus was dead. Why could he have done that? Isn't that something to question? Yes it is, how would one prefer not to handle a situation while it is still possible for one to do so than wait till it is beyond control? But the truth remains that nothing was beyond the control of our Lord, and Saviour Jesus Christ. Praise God.

Still in the book of John today, we shall be looking at this important lesson, how that Jesus raised the one who had been dead a long time, and what lessons  we are to learn as believers from this particular lesson. I trust the Lord to speak to our hearts greatly today. Amen. The passage of scripture under consideration is seen below,

"Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. [32] Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died". (John 11:21,32).

When Jesus had come into the city, Martha the sister of Lazarus said to him that if he had been there when the brother was sick, he would have done something to deliver her brother from such sickness but since he wasn't, nothing could be done, and the brother had to die. Did you also notice that Mary said the same thing? They both believed that the situation was still very much redeemable when Lazarus was sick, and that nothing could be done even now that he was dead. Well, that was their thought.

To them, Jesus had come very late. Even the people around questioned his coming, and said if he was that powerful, he could have prevented Lazarus from dying. That is even still simple because they were about to see something they had never seen. Jesus wasn't bothered by that. The main thing remains that he came, isn't it? Whether it was at the time they thought or not. All he did was give instructions for the stone to be rolled away. He prayed, and that was all. The dead lived again. He was never late.

There are many times just like Mary, and Martha that we feel as believers that the Lord is late. You know why? Because we think most times that the situation was very much redeemable then that it is now, and if the Lord had come then, it would have been very much easy. But do you know that he is never too late? Just anytime is fine with him, and it doesn't matter how unpleasant the situation is at the time he comes, what matters is his coming, and that there's always a solution when he comes. I pray that this dwells richly in your heart today, and that you're comforted by it. Amen.

Thought for the Day

The Lord is never too late. Just know that whenever he comes, no matter the situation, there would be a solution.
