A Burning Altar by Favour Oyetunji

A Burning Altar by Favour Oyetunji

Like a lamb waiting to be slaughtered I felt .
On a mission to destroy another I am.
It should be easy like it has always been.
But this days, something is really off.
With that unexplainable dread I fasten on my belt .
From this duty I can't flee, so I better be calm.
My soul I have sold when life was a spin.
Now I can't get out even if I scoff .

Incantation after the other I made.
Several words passed and barrier 's still up.
Strange it is, for this territory is not unknown.
This should be smooth so... what's up?
With a smirk, I pressed, even harder.
It seems he has gained more weight in the realm.
Yet I am not impotent,.. this should be fun.
His weakness I know, that of inconsistency.

With the rush of power, another route I took.
Oh, don't be awed by my constancy.
That is the key to endless power in the ethereal.
You are either so deep in darkness or shine so bright as light .
For the supernal is not for babes and weaklings
Tepidness spewed out, having one fate .
Join the other force or be slaughtered.
Exactly my story, the reason I am like this.

Once alight, now fighting the light.
Have I mentioned My soul had been sold?
A fruitless effort for we can never conquer .
But my master relentlessly looking for a crack.
To defeat more soul she seeks, even children of light .
Oh, there I found an opening as always.
In I go, with the intention of parking ashes.
Yet the dread persists as if I am being ensnared.

Drenched in sweat as I walked deeper .
My sword shook alongside my hand.
"This isn't right, something is wrong" .
Heat, so much he at . . . Light, a bright light .
I couldn't proceed so I turned around.
Then I noticed the source... A altar, a burning altar .
Oh I've missed my way this is danger .
But then I realized, I am indeed trapped.

Fire roundabout burning me, yet not me.
This is death we have always been warned
Never to get mixed with an active light .
In hopelessness I tried reaching deep... then I noticed.
The being I me trembled as its power stumbled.
Ah, it has all been a fallacy, we can never be up to light .
As I wonder, I was once light yet never this aflame .
I beheld the territory continuously sacrifices his flesh and self on the altar
With a steadfastness and knowledge I never had.
