When one comes to know the Lord, he is not just called to live a life of righteousness but as it were, to lead others to Christ as well. You see, God picks a man, and uses that same man to reach others. The goal is simple; that all men might be saved. Glory to God. His plan is not for any to perish, and the scripture is clear on this. It is therefore important to know that as believers, there's that which is expected of us to do. Praise God.
You must rise for the salvation of others. No child of the Father will see any man who is not of the Father, and would not desire that such a man get to know the Lord. This is what it means to share the Lord's burden. That which burdens the Lord is that many are still living their lives without him. Many are still void of the knowledge of God but that all men may get to know him, see, and tell of his awesome wonders, and we as children of the living God must effectively discharge our responsibilities.
The question is this; what are these responsibilities? What do we have to really do such that all men by all means would be saved? Do we just keep quiet, and do nothing? Do we just stay, and not share in the Father's burden? You see, this is a call to responsibility, to know that we have an assignment, and that we must by the grace of God do all we can to fulfill the assignment God has given us. Praise the Lord. Shall we consider the passage of scripture below?
"To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins, [79] To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace". (Luke 1:77, 79).
Prior to the statements as seen in the passage above, the scripture talked about a couple: Zecharias, and his wife Elisabeth who served the Lord devotedly but had no child, and how that in the process of time, when he went into the temple to burn incense that the angel of the Lord appeared to him, and told him he was going to have a son. Although he doubted, it was done as it was told him by the angel. It was after the birth of the child even as the angel had told him that the statements above came forth, and he called the name of the child, John just as the angel had said. This is to tell to us that God's words will always, and surely come to pass. It will be even as he has spoken. Hallelujah!
That said, before now, we have been talking about the fact that as believers we have certain responsibilities, isn't it? While we may not be considering the passage as it is because it is a message about John, we shall be seeing in application some lessons in our anchor text, and I trust the Lord to help us. The passage above makes it clear to us that our responsibility first of all is to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the remission of their sins, in other words, we are to make Christ known to them, how that he paid the price for them, and how that believing in him brings cleansing, and pardon from all sins (remission). Hallelujah!
Secondly, it says to give light to them that sit darkness, and in the shadow of death. This means that there are still many who sit in darkness, who do not see, who are in the shadow of death, men laden with loads of iniquity, and it's our responsibility as believers to give light to them. This means that we again have to make Christ known to them, and how that the life in him is the light of men, and that he is the only one that can give light to men, not just that, but that he himself is the light they need. This I pray that the Lord help us to do with the whole of our hearts. Amen.
Thought for the day
You have been given a responsibility; to give to men the knowledge of salvation, and to give light to men. Have you been doing any of these?
