You Know The Truth: Gospel Today Devotional - 17th April, 2022

God be praised for helping us thus far. The book of 1 John has been very beneficial to us as it has revealed to us the mind of God in various areas. We are currently going through the second chapter, and we shall be concluding the chapter soon. In our last study, we saw from scripture that we are not to love the world neither the things that are in it, right? It revealed to us the folly of putting our trust on earthly things. I believe you all were blessed.

You Know The Truth: Gospel Today Devotional - 17th April, 2022

One truth we have to face today is the fact that we are in the last times not necessarily because there are killings, bombings, wars and rumours of wars but chiefly because there's a teaching of that which appears like the truth but it is in itself not the truth. Praise God. There's now a denial of Jesus Christ and the public proclamation of it too.

The apostle John in writing this epistle had so much to correct. He addressed issue that were very important to believers then and that are very much important to us now. Some of these we have seen in previous lessons and we shall be considering another today. Let's see the passage of scripture below,

"Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. [19] They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out , that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us. [20] But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. [21] I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth" ( 1 John 2:18-21).

It is not just enough to know or to say that there's now a denial of Jesus Christ, that is, of him being the Son of God by many who profess not the truth but also to point out the fact that many have been deceived as a result of this false proclamation. The apostle John writes not just to inform the believers of those who are now teaching an antichrist message but also to charge them to be vigilant just the same way we have to be vigilant even in our world today.

We hear people going about saying all sort of things. While they may claim to be for Christ, the apostle John talks about them not being part of those who profess the message of Christ in truth. This is because no one would speak against Christ if truly he is for Christ, isn't it? This calls for serious concern and watchfulness so as not to give heed to cunningly devised fables. While it is true these things are happening, the apostle John says something to encourage us and to help us walk in the truth ever as believers. Hallelujah.

He started by stating the fact that many people who are against Christ (antichrists) are out there but that we need not be troubled because we know all things as a result of the unction we have from the Holy one. By knowing all things, it is not referring to the fact that believer has perfect knowledge as God, that is, all knowing but rather the fact that we know all things that pertains to the truth about Christ especially him being the very Son of God. Hence, we cannot be deceived by those who are out to declare false things about Christ because we know by the reason of the unction that has been given us that no lie is of the truth. You know the truth. I know the truth. The truth we know and have been taught by the unction given to us by the Holy one through fellowship with his word, and with him in prayer is our weapon against those who preach falsely. The Lord help us all in Jesus' name.

Thought for the day: The truth you know about Christ as a result of fellowship with him in prayer and study of his word is your weapon against every false teaching and teachers. You are not to trade it for anything.
