In 3rd John 1:2 and many similar Bible verses, we see that i
Which of you, whom if his son ask bread,
will he give him a stone?
God is a good and loving father and it is totally
irreconcilable that a good and loving father will put something as evil and
wicked as sickness on His children.
Having established that God is good and He wants every believer to live a long and healthy life, we must therefore answer the question: if God wants us to be healthy and live long, why do believers fall sick and many times die untimely? God's will for His children is health and long life, but this does not mean His children do not have a part to play. From the scriptures, we must realize that God's will for humanity is that everyone should be saved and that none should perish(1 Timothy 2:4, 2 Peter 3:9), yet many people are still sinners today and many still go to hell. This is to show that because something is God's will does not mean it will automatically come to pass. The will of God needs the cooperation and willingness of man to be fulfilled in man's life. Therefore, if believers who are God's children want to live long and healthy lives, there are things that they must do to cooperate with God's will of long life and health.
1. 1. Study and meditate on God's word
Joshua 1:8
[8]This book of the law shall not depart
out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou
mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou
shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.(King
James Version).
God's word is the key to enjoying all of
the provisions of God for His children. A Christian that does not study and
meditate upon God's word is an imprisoned Christian, such a Christian is bond
by ignorance which can keep him in sickness and lack because the truth that you
do not know cannot set you free.
Genesis
to Malachi which is referred to as Old Testament was written in the
Hebrew language and the word meditate that was used in Joshua 1:8 was
translated from the Hebrew word: “hagar” which means to ponder, murmur or
mutter. Therefore, meditating on God's word and doing it the way it was said in
Joshua 1:8 is to ponder upon God's word, mutter God's word day and night.
Feeding on God's word and meditating on
God's word is essential for a healthy life because God's word is medicine for
our flesh.
Proverbs 4:20-22
[20]My son, attend to my words; incline
thine ear unto my sayings.
[21]Let them not depart from thine eyes;
keep them in the midst of thine heart.
[22]For they are life unto those that find
them, and health to all their flesh.
Giving attention to God's word, keeping
God's in your heart and muttering or speaking God's word is medicine to your
body. (King James Version).
2. 2. Practicing and Doing God's word.
It is not enough to hear or know God's
word, the word of God that you hear and know, but fail to practice cannot do
you any good. It is not the amount of knowledge or information that you have
from God's that blesses you, but the amount of God's word that you do.
James 1:22-25
[22]But be ye doers of the word, and not
hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
[23]For if any be a hearer of the word, and
not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
[24]For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his
way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
[25]But whoso looketh into the perfect law
of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer
of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.(King James Version).
There is a blessing that comes from doing
God's word. The person who gives himself to doing God's word will walk in the
blessings of God and shut the Devil out. Many believers give the Devil entrance
into their lives because they fail to do God's word and give themselves to
God's word. God gives healing and health, but sickness is an offspring of it's
mother sin and it's father the devil. The reason why many believers are not walking
in health is that they are not putting God's word to practice, they are giving the devil an inroad to their lives and
they are failing to rebuke the devil, because if they do, both sickness and the
devil will flee.
James 4:7
[7]Submit yourselves therefore to God.
Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
The
way to submit yourself to God is by doing God's word. Esteeming God's word in
your life and submitting yourself to
God's word by doing it will shut the devil and sickness out of your life. (King
James Version).
3. 3. Confessing God's word and confessing health.
The principle of faith is simple: you shall
have whatever you say. Well, I didn't establish this principle, God Himself
did. God is a faith God, the Bible says God calls those things that be not as
though they were, which means God does not see then speak. Instead, He speaks
and then sees; it what He speaks that creates what He sees.
Hebrews 11:3
[3]Through faith we understand that the
worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not
made of things which do appear. (King James Version).
As God's children, we are to act like God
and follow His example. A believer should always confess health and long life
even when the body feels sick and weak. Jesus made a very important statement
that governs the life of many people today in the book of Mark:
Mark 11:23
[23]For verily I say unto you, That
whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into
the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things
which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.(King
James Version).
A man's life is a reflection of the things
he believes and confesses with his mouth. Consciously or unconsciously, people
always say what they have in their heart with their mouth for the mouth speaks
from the abundance of the heart( Matthew 12:34).
To live a long and healthy life, you must
continually confess health and long life.
4. 4. Honour your father and mother.
Ephesians 6:2
[2]Honour thy father and mother; (which is
the first commandment with promise;) (King James Version).
People who want to live long must honour their
parents. Honouring one's parents carries
a promise of long life with it. Christians must intentionally and deliberately
live lives that honour their parents and the elders around them.
5. 5. Live with wisdom and balance.
This is very important. Some believers many
times become so zealous that they act ignorantly. A believer is a supernatural
and spiritual being that has God's Spirit, but the believer is also natural. As
long as we are on this earth and in this earthly body, there are natural things
and laws that we cannot bypass. Bypassing such laws and things can cut a
person’s life short and deny one of good
health. Eating, sleeping, resting, etc. These natural things are very important
and nobody can survive without doing them. Wait, I will show you something:
Mark 11:11-13
[11]And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and
into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now
the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.
[12]And on the morrow, when they were come
from Bethany, he was hungry:
[13]And seeing a fig tree afar off having
leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to
it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.(King James
Version).
Did you read the verses of scriptures
referenced above? Jesus, God in man, the one who is one with the Father, he was
hungry and not only was he hungry, he went to look for food and was ready to
eat if he had found food. It is good to fast, but fasting must be done wisely
else it may bring a person’s life to a fast end.
Let's check another scripture
Matthew 8:22-24
[22]But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and
let the dead bury their dead.
[23]And when he was entered into a ship,
his disciples followed him.
[24]And, behold, there arose a great
tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he
was asleep.
I have proven from the scriptures that
Jesus was not always fasting, there were times when he was hungry and was
looking for food. Now, I am also showing that Jesus was not always having
vigils or preaching, he had time to sleep.
Well, I am not blaspheming but I want to
state it categorically that if Jesus was not eating and sleeping, he would not
have had to be killed by being nailed to the cross, he would have died of hunger
and fatigue.
It is God's will that believers live a long
and healthy life, but believers are not without responsibility. To live a long
and healthy life, believers must cooperate with God and live the way they are
supposed to live.
