Better is the Poor: Gospel Today Devotional - 30th September, 2022

Just recently, there has been a very huge flow of successful people. While some people are indeed successful, and by that, I mean doing legitimate businesses, others are only being deceitful.

Better is the Poor: Gospel Today Devotional - 30th September, 2022

It is funny how that the person who is walking in deceit and getting his wealth by very deceitful means tells you to work hard and make money in this life. That may seem like an advice that you should hold on to, right? That's true but if only the person saying it is doing what he is doing legitimately. The list is endless. This will lead us to a very important study today. Let's see the passage of scripture below,

"Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich". (Proverbs 28:6)

Just recently, there was the news of a guy in the Western part of Africa, Nigeria to be precise who before he was arrested was telling people to work hard and make money in this life. Most people saw this as a motivation but little did they know that the guy was a kidnapper. He confessed to his crimes after he was arrested.

As believers, we must bear this in mind, although we should desire to get things done, how we get things done must be honest. Never must we do things that bring dishonor to the name of the Lord. The truth is, just like scripture puts it that it is better to be poor and walk in uprightness than to be perverse though one is rich.

This may be because money is not what matters to God not even if you get it through dishonest means. The thing that matters to God is that a man walks in uprightness which may also mean honest, good, true, righteous, decent, and ethical. Is the scripture saying that being rich is a bad thing? Not at all. It just would be better to be rich in good deeds, and righteousness, than to gather wealth by dishonest means. It only brings shame and disgrace to you, the people you love, and also brings dishonour to the name of the Lord. The Lord causes his word to dwell richly in our hearts. Amen.

Daily Nugget: The poor man who is rich in uprightness ( honesty, decency, righteousness) is better than a rich man who is perverse in his ways ( gathers wealth by dishonest means).

Prayer: Lord, this I pray today, that I may walk uprightly, never to walk the path of dishonesty. In Jesus' name. Amen.
