The Consequence of Sin: Gospel Today Devotional - 7th October, 2022

Many of us know about the story of creation, isn't it? How that God created the heaven and the earth and every other thing including man. We are also aware of the very instruction he gave man to eat everything he gave them the command to eat except the tree that was in the midst of the garden, right?

The Consequence of Sin: Gospel Today Devotional - 7th October, 2022

Did man disobey? Yes. Being deceived by the serpent, the devil, man did that which God had told him not to do. Adam and his wife ate the fruit. What we are considering in today's study is the implication of their action. Praise God! Let's see the passage of scripture below,

"And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? [10] And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. [11] And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?" - (Genesis 3:9-11)

It is very much possible from the look of things in scripture that God was not just coming to visit Adam and his wife for the first time. It must have probably been a usual routine of God coming to fellowship with them, and maybe each time he came, they never for once hid. However, they hid themselves this time from God, why? Cause they had done something wrong. They had disobeyed his instruction. They had sinned.

We need to know that every action taken against the instruction of God is a sin. Sin is outright disobedience to God's instructions. This includes even things you do not consider such as worry, fear, murmuring, backbiting, etc. It is so because God in his word has said not to. This was the same thing that happened to the man at the beginning of creation. He did what God had told him not to do.

Sin in any form separates us from God and makes us feel guilty that we begin to think that we have to run away from God. If Adam had owned up, admitting he had sinned and sought God's forgiveness, maybe the story could have been different cause God is indeed forgiving in nature. The lesson today is that rather than living with sin's consequences such as guilt, and a feeling to run away from God, we are to come boldly yet humbly to the throne of grace so that we may obtain mercy and find grace help at such a time (Hebrews 4:15, 16; 1 John 2:1, 2).

Daily Nugget: That you err does not mean you are to die in guilt and run away from the presence of God. The arms of God are opened to receive you if you would come before him, own up to your fault, and seek his forgiveness. God is merciful.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for your love. Thank you for acting me each time I come to you. I pray, that you help me to live a consistent life of victory in you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
