5 Lessons from the Life of King Nebuchadnezzar

The tryant King of the bible in the books of Daniel, Ezekiel and Jeremiah, king Nebuchadnezzar was a proud Babylonian ruler who was reprimanded and humbled by Jehovah,he reigned from 605 Bc till 562 BC,he was one of the most powerful and longest reigning ruler of the Babylonian empire,He destroyed Jerusalem in 526 bc and led away many Hebrews into captivity in Babylon, again in 586 BC he returned to besiege Jerusalem once more. In the book of Jeremiah it was revealed that his return caused alot of problem and chaos in the city, the city was captured, Solomon's temple and the deportation of many Hebrews into captivity.

King Nebuchadnezzar was one of the biblical villian kings. His name originates from the root word - Nabu, which means a Babylonian god. He was a powerful king that tried to challenge the sovereignty of God but was subdued,He crossed part with prophet Daniel and prophet Jeremiah in his lifetime, both who carried important messages for God's people about the coming of the Messiah.

We will look at things to learn from his life and existence on earth, and the rewards he got from his tryanny and wicked lifestyle.

1. God comes through for his people

Nebuchadnezzar tried to mock God by creating an image of a tall Giant,He made mockery of Jehovah and told all the people of Babylon to bow down and worship the idol, because the wear under the influence of his power and might the did it,He tried to cajole the 3 Hebrew boys into worshipping the idol but the vehemently refused, surprised by their fearless composure, then he threatened them by saying in Daniel 3:15, he said "Now when you hear the sound of the instruments if your ready to fall down and worship the image I made, very Good,But if you do not worship it,you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace ,Then what God will be able to rescue you from my hand? (NIV),But the boys vehemently told him that there God will save them, when they were thrown into that furnace and angel of God appeared and together the three Hebrew boys and the angel were walking around and praising God,the king was surprised and praised the God of shedrach, meschah and Abednego and promoted them in the province of Babylon.

Is God not wonderful,He always comes through for his people, who abides and trust in him.

2. Pride goeth before a Fall

when Nebuchadnezzar was bragging about his powerful status and achievement,in Daniel 4 vs 28 - 37, Nebuchadnezzar was walking on the roof of the royal residence and he said is this not the great Babylon,I have built as the royal residence,by my mighty power and for the Glory of my Majesty, Those words were still on his lips when Jehovah from heaven made a decree to him saying " your royal authority has being taken from you,you will be driven away from people and you will live with the wild animals, you shs ear grass like cattle, seven times will pass by for you untill you acknowledge that the most high is sovereign over the kingdoms of men and gives them to anyone he wishes. And the decree came to pass in  Nebuchadnezzar life and then after 7 years,he praised and praised honoured the most high. In verse 37 he discovered that those who walk in pride God  is able to humble.

3. Learn to consult God

when king Nebuchadnezzar had a strange dream in Daniel 2 vs 1 - 49 he found it strange but when he recounted the dream to his interpreters, none of them had the inspiration to explain the dream, the were all idol worshippers and the dream cane from God therefore no one had a clue to what the dream meant, the were mere astrologers, they answered the king saying "What the king asks for is too difficult ,no one can explain the dream except The gods, and they do not live among men" Daniel 2 vs 11,he got angry and ordered the execution of all the wise men of Babylon, But Daniel came to their rescue and God revealed the mystery of the dream to him,He went to king Nebuchadnezzar and told him, there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, after Daniel explained that dream, Nebuchadnezzar immediately knew of the importance to consult the living God,he told Daniel that his God is the God of gods and a reveler of mysteries.

4. It Pays to Exercise Faith in God

king Nebuchadnezzar the tryanny king of the bible was a king that made an idol made out of gold for the people of Babylon to worship but the kind of faith that the three Hebrew boys showed was outstanding, the stood their ground and maintained absolute faith and trust in God, such act of faith was a powerful one,we should make saw we develop faith in God, we should trust in him and believe that no matter the situation he will arise.

5. Jehovah gives wisdom : - The wisdom God gave Daniel was what he used in explaining the dream to king Nebuchadnezzar, he thought that his astrologers and magician possessed knowledge that one one else does but God proved them wrong and granted Daniel that wisdom to interpret dreams ,and Nebuchadnezzar himself was surprised at such wisdom and praised the God of Daniel .
