The desire, and decision to do something becomes easy when you do have patterns to follow. Nothing becomes difficult especially when you have people who did the same thing before you or people doing it at the time you're able to start. It gives you the confidence, the hope, and then the belief that of a truth, you wouldn't find it difficult to do that which is expected of you, isn't it?
I remember clearly, that in subjects like Quantitative reasoning, and Verbal aptitude back then in Primary school, and I believe many of us remember this as well, before we begin to solve anything, there would be some laid down examples for us, right? We only begin solving after we must have carefully studied the examples that were given to us. This made the work so very easy for us to do.
In our study today, with the help of the Lord, we shall be considering the topic, A Cloud of Witnesses. I trust that the Lord would reveal to you, and me that which he wants us to see, and at the same time help us to abide by it. The anchor text for today's devotional is seen below:
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us , and let us run with patience the race that is set before us". (Hebrews 12:1).
To begin with, we need to understand that in the preceding chapter, that is, in the eleventh chapter of Hebrews, the scripture talked about faith. The fact is that it is impossible to please God without faith. It didn't end there, as men and women who did many things through faith were recognized. So chapter 12 is a continuation of chapter 11.
This is it, wherefore seeing we also are compassed with so great a cloud of witnesses ( meaning that, since we have seen people who through faith lived to the glory of God), Let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us (Looking at this people, let's put everything aside by faith, believing that if they could, we can too), and let us run with patience the race which has been set before us (now we know it is possible to live our lives for him, and seeing that we have these cloud witnesses, there's no need to panic, and following their patterns, let's run our race with patience). Praise God.
You see, it's very much possible to live our lives for the Lord. The Lord through his word has given us a cloud of witnesses to help us see for ourselves that if they could do it, we can too. May their lives, stories, and victories continue to inspire us, and exhort us to live daily for the Lord. Amen.
Thought for the Day: You have been given a cloud of witnesses, learning from them through scripture and following them now as they follow or have followed Christ, you should live your life by faith to the glory of God.
