If you used to identify a person as being rough and dirty maybe because of the way he dresses and the fact that he never takes his hygiene very seriously, it would be surprising to you if such a person starts being neat and decent, right? What that means is that there's been a change in the status of that person that seems to be different from what you have always known him to be. Let's see the passage of Scripture below:
"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: [10] Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy". (1 Peter 2:9-10)
This will help us consider our study today in two ways, the first is that, we have been chosen by God, not for self or any other reason but that we live for him and bring glory to his name. It should be known that He considers us holy, peculiar, and chosen. Hence, our responsibility is to bring glory to His name. We are to show forth the praises of him who has called us from darkness to light. What a privilege that is! Glory to God.
The second part is that the first part gives an insight into who we used to be and who we now are in Christ. It tells us of our status now in Christ. We used to be a people not of God, but now we are. We used to be among those who have not obtained mercy, but now we are, and it's the reason we are saved.
If so that this is the case, we are to always give thanks to God for how He saved us and what manner of love He has bestowed upon us that we should be called his own. Second is, knowing we have been chosen by Him and are now considered as His, we must live our lives for Him alone, showing His praise as those who indeed have been called out of darkness into His marvelous light. God blesses his word in our hearts. Amen.
Thought for the Day
You are no longer who you used to be as you are now a child of God and you have now obtained mercy. Hence, your life should be lived in a way that brings glory to God alone.
