Unashamed of the Gospel by Ajayi Marvelous Oluwatimilehin

Unashamed of the Gospel by Ajayi Aanuoluwapo Ruth

An alien I was, passing through this evil filled earth,
Dressed in filthy rags while citizens in fineries I met.
Plodding through mud, climbing the icy peaks of mountains;
And drinking in draughts from a contaminated fountain.
 But still unashamed

Ship wrecked, I have drowned in the murky depths of depression
And walked in the liquid sea of hades with nothing but gumption
My skin stretched taut across my bones, I was starved
Whip-like words burnt into my mind, scars were carved
and still un ashamed

Citizens reclined in their shelters, I was burnt by the heat of the sun
Cuddled In their cozy blankets while I shivered  in the chill and mourn
Thinking of the journey ahead and the pleasures I had enjoyed now far gone
And the once velvety skin now scarred with burns
And there was a spark of shame

When I looked down on the rags that hung from me like a scarecrow
And my scars reminders of the arrows that shot at me from their bows
And longed for the riches and wealth of this world
Not knowing it was mud, perishable mud and more of mud
And there was complete shame

To the world, what I seemed for was an old rugged cross
Surrounded by dust human bones and curse, thinking it was all dross
And  beholding with the eyes of faith I saw surrounding me the sparkle of gold
sapphire, emerald, diamond twinkling in shades bold
 And I am not ashamed

I saw as the scales fell of my eyes
That the rags I wore was gold and the gold citizens wore was rags in disguise
This world couldn't compare to my country set in skies of blue
Where God's love paints everywhere in beautiful shades and hues
And then I realized there was nothing to be ashamed of
