"I Didn't Anticipate that My Piece Would Win, But..." - Winner, The New Man Gospel Writing Contest

Following the announcement of the winners of the recently concluded gospel writing contest organized by The New Man Organization, we took out time to have a chat with some of the winners and their insights about the theme for the quarter.

Q: Can we meet you?

Praise: My name is Praise Abayomi, a graduate of Dramatic Arts from Obafemi Awolowo University, a lover of God, an author, and a creative writer with a passion for writing and storytelling.

The New Man Organization

I have had the privilege of publishing two books: "Agemo" and "In Pursuit of God," both of which are now available on Selar. I love sharing my work with readers and exploring the intersection of faith, art, and storytelling.

Q: What motivated you to put in an entry for this year's Q1 contest?

Praise: Three key factors motivated me to enter the contest. First, I was glad to discover a platform for Christian writers, which aligned with my long-held desire to find a platform where Christian writers can share their thoughts.

Secondly, I was motivated by my friend, Gloria Adunoluwanije, who encouraged me to keep writing.

And my biggest drive was the theme of the contest, "Partakers of His Grace". After studying the related scripture, I knew it was a rare opportunity to challenge myself and grow as a writer.

Q: How did you feel when you realized you won? Have you ever anticipated that this piece would win?

Praise: I was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude to God. To be honest, I didn't anticipate that my piece would win, but I had hoped it would resonate with the judges and readers.

Q: What was the creative point of view you had while writing your winning piece? What were you anticipating that your readers would learn?

Praise: While writing my piece, I aimed to explore the theme of God's grace from a personal perspective, especially in the poem "The Voice in the Void". I felt like I was telling my story, sharing my testimony of how God's grace has transformed my life. I hoped my readers would learn about the power of God's grace, and its capacity to heal and transform. I prayed that my writing would inspire others to embrace the life-changing beauty of God's grace.

Q: To whom will you dedicate this piece to (Kindly expatiate how this person, place or thing has influenced you in your writing journey)

Praise: This piece is dedicated to God, the eternal wellspring of my inspiration.

I also extend my gratitude to Loveth Irorere, the CEO of Proline Editors, who has inspired and mentored me since the beginning of my writing career.

Also, I dedicate this piece to everyone who supported and commented on the post, their encouraging comments inspired me to do more. And, to the loving memory of Bro. John Johnson, whose tireless support during the voting period made a significant difference. His life was a proof of God's grace, and his passing reminded me of the importance of living a life that honours God.

Q: "Partakers of His grace" - this was the theme of the contest. Do you think the present-day church has harnessed this fully (kindly give a recommendation if no and a reason, if yes)

Praise: The present-day church has made tremendous effort to share the message of God's grace to all and sundry, which I greatly commend. But I believe there is still work to be done because many people still struggle to understand and rest in the fullness of God's grace.

I recommend that the church continues to emphasize the importance of God’s grace in its teachings and outreach programs. Also, believers should share their personal testimonies of God's grace with others, proclaiming the transformative power of grace in their lives.

Q: What do you think could have been done better with the contest?

Praise: The contest was well-organized and I commend the organization for a work well-done. It would be very much appreciated if contestants are provided with feedback as regards their submissions; this would help participants improve their craft. Also, I experienced some technical issues during the voting period. Some people had difficulty commenting and voting due to sign-in issues. Although this might have been a network glitch, it would be helpful to look into this issue for future contests.

Q: Do you have any other thing you'd like to share?

Praise: I thank the organizers for providing a platform where Christian writers can share their work. I am honoured to have been a part of this contest, and I look forward to greater heights.
