Ogar Victor's Interview

Following the announcement of the results of The New Man gospel contest, we took out time to engage Ogar Victor, one of the winners.

Q: Can we meet you?

A:  My name is Victor Ogar, an undergraduate of Computer Science studying at the University of Calabar.

I'm also a Christian fiction writer, a drama and spoken word minister with the hope of one day changing the narrative of creativity in the gospel space and letting God's glory be revealed and his name be glorified through my works.

My aim is to consistently increase in knowledge and its application as regarding Gospel Creativity and other aspects of my life, advancement and propagation of the gospel through my skills and by the help of the Holy Spirit.

Q: What motivated you to put in an entry for this year's Q1 contest?

A: Several factors were involved. One was the desire to pass across the message I believed God had placed in my heart for certain individuals. The second motivation for me was that I felt this contest also was an avenue to challenge myself and also to grow myself in my writing career, achieve certain goals I had set for myself and acquire more experience in this regard.

Q: How did you feel when you realized you won? Have you ever anticipated that this piece would win?

A: When I received the email and then checked the results, I was overwhelmed with joy and I became super excited becoming almost restless with excitement through the entire day.

I had expectations I would win considering how much effort I had put into writing the piece but there was also the thought of it not working out but I'm glad and grateful to God for the honor in emerging top in my category

Q: What was the creative point of view you had while writing your winning piece? What were you anticipating that your readers would learn?

A: The objective I had in mind whilst creating my piece Partakers of The Divine Heritage was to first inform and remind the believer that the enemy is all out to prevent us from partaking in that which Christ has obtained for us via his death and resurrection and the major way he achieves this is by ignorance and he comes through various aspects and spheres of life from family, arts, science, government alongside other spheres of influence in the society and his aim is if he can't get us to lose consciousness of God's grace, he can as well make us not to see the need for it or to divert our attention from it totally.

What I anticipated the readers will learn is not to be ignorant of the devil's devices as the bible has admonished us and to also grow in the knowledge of God and walk in it therefore achieving God's aim which is to make us partakers of his grace.

Q: To whom will you dedicate this piece to (Kindly expatiate how this person, place or thing has influenced you in your writing journey)

A: I dedicate this piece to my heavenly Father for his unending mercy and love towards us, also to Christ who laid down his life for us making it possible for us to partake of God's grace and to the Holy spirit for his constant companionship and inspiration and for also finding me worthy to be a vessel in his house and for being my guide and ever present help in time of need.

In all I say to God be the glory.

Q: "Partakers of His grace" - this was the theme of the contest. Do you think the present-day church has harnessed this fully (kindly give a recommendation if no and a reason, if yes)

A: To a certain degree, I'll say yes that the present day church has harnessed being partakers of God's grace as there are countless examples of individuals walking in this reality and working tirelessly to ensure it's also actualized in the life of others but I'll say there's still a ground to do more as there's a whole lot we're yet to achieve.

Consider God's grace a package, we've only just scratched a part of the wrapping sheet and taken a peep. I believe there's more for us to achieve.

Q: What do you think could have been done better with the contest?

A:  I must first commend the organisers of this contest and say God bless them for a job well done.

I'd highly recommend a platform be created where participants in the future can come together, connect, share ideas with one another and learn certain things from one another.

Another thing is that the voting process is quite lengthy and, to a certain extent, difficult for some people. It'll be great if this can be worked on and improved to make it easier for comments to be submitted.

Q: Do you have any other thing you'd like to share?

A: I want to appreciate The New Man Organisation, the president Sir Nelson Vincent, the organisers and the organisation at large for this honour and opportunity; I do not take it for granted.

I also want to appreciate my fellow contestants, as I was really blessed and learnt a lot from the entries I went through.

And finally, I want to shout out to and congratulate my fellow winners in their various categories, Miss Ajeire Inioluwa Abigail and Miss Praise Abayomi, and to wish them more success in their endeavours.

Finally, I say God bless my fellow contestants.

God bless the winners.

God bless The New Man Organization.

God bless the body of Christ.

And God bless Nigeria.
