27th July, 1549

On this day, Jesuit missionary Francis Xavier arrived at the port of Kagoshima, marking the introduction of Christianity to Japan.

27th July, 1857 

On this day, Rev. Samuel Ajayi Crowther, who later became the first African Anglican bishop of West Africa, led the Church Missionary Society (CMS) team, including Rev. John Christopher Taylor, Catechist Simon Jonas, and Augustus Armadillo, in the 1857 Niger expedition, marking the introduction of Christianity to the Eastern part of Nigeria.

27th July, 1913 

William Wadé Harris, a Liberian evangelist, commenced his missionary journey from Liberia to Ghana on this day. Clad in a white robe and turban, carrying a bamboo cross, a Bible, and a gourd rattle, Harris preached an orthodox Christian message emphasizing the rejection of indigenous fetishes. In an eighteen-month period spanning 1913–1914, he baptized over 100,000 new converts, significantly impacting West African Christianity.

27th July, 1925 

On this day, Andrew Foster, an African-American missionary dedicated to educating the deaf in Africa was born. After becoming the first African-American graduate of Gallaudet College, Foster founded over 30 schools for the deaf across 13 African nations, profoundly impacting deaf education on the continent.
