29th August, 1792 

The influential American revivalist Charles Grandison Finney was born on this day. While Presbyterian, his revival methods (altar calls, personal testimonies) greatly influenced later Pentecostal revivalism.

On this day, Rev Thomas Jefferson Bowen, a Baptist mission pioneer, returned to Nigeria with his wife after a health-related trip to the U.S., eventually influencing the broader Christian mission landscape in West Africa.

29th August, 1981

On this day, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo of the UK-based Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) wed Pastor Yemisi, daughter of a Lagos Foursquare Gospel Church pastor.

29th August, 1998

On this day, Bishop David Oyedepo’s Living Faith Church (Winners’ Chapel) began laying the foundation for the Faith Tabernacle in Ota, Nigeria, a 50,000-seat sanctuary later recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest church auditorium at the time.

29th August, 2005 

On this day, Professor Ishaya Audu, founder of Victory Assembly (originally Charity and Faith Missions) and former Vice-Chancellor of ABU passed away. Though not Pentecostal in origin, his ministry later partnered with the Pentecostal community.
