1st September, 1728

On this day, Philip Embury, a pioneering Methodist preacher in early America was born. Embury led one of the first Methodist congregations in New York City and was instrumental in establishing the John Street Church.


September 1, 1877

On this day, Karl Ludvig Reichelt, a Norwegian missionary who founded the Tao Fong Shan Christian Centre in Hong Kong in 1930 and reached out to Buddhists and Taoists was born.

On this day, John M. Moore, a Scottish Baptist minister who later ministered in Ontario, Canada, and authored gospel music including “Burdens Are Lifted at Calvary” was born.

On this day, Jerry Vines, an Influential American Southern Baptist preacher was born. He was known for leading large congregations and serving as SBC president.

On this day, Isabella Thoburn, a Prominent missionary-educator and founder of Thoburn College in India, Isabella Thoburn, died of Asiatic cholera, capping decades of evangelical influence in education  .
