Evangelist Bunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye, a popular Nigerian Gospel Music Minister has been reported dead. This report was made in a social media post, which was accompanied by a picture of the late singer and a video of her remains.

Bunmi Akinaanu, who came to limelight with her popular hit song titled “Omije Oju mi” translated to mean “My tears”, passed away on 12th January, 2026 at an hospital in Lagos State, Nigeria.

The Minister’s demise was announced on Tuesday, 13th January via a terse statement shared on Instagram by her colleague Ayo Melody, on behalf of her family. The statement reads as follows:

“With great sadness 💔😭 we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (OMIJE OJUMI), who passed away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital in Nigeria,”

“May God grant her eternal rest 🙏.”


Bunmi’s death comes a few months after she had appealed for prayers and divine healing while battling a serious leg ailment.

The leg ailment led her to an healing service sometime in October 2025 at G.F David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo state capital. Eyewitnesses claimed that at the service, an intravenous (IV) cannula was visibly attached to her hand, underscoring the severity of her condition.

In a video circling the internet, the cleric at G.F David Ministries, while addressing the congregation, revealed that the singer had been suffering from persistent bleeding in her leg, which he identified as a spiritual attack, calling it an “arrow”.

He prayed against what he termed the “spirit of death,” commanding it to leave her body.

Bunmi Akinnaanu, who began singing at the age of 10, left a career in banking to pursue music full-time. She rose to prominence with her hit song ‘Omije Ojumi’ a song that captured the hearts of many Nigerian Christians and became a staple in churches and homes across the country. She built on that success with a series of uplifting releases over the years, including ‘O Ti Sure’.

Tributes have begun to pour in for the deceased singer following news of her death with popular gospel ministers leading the front and showing support for the family.
