Some men carry a legacy because they were born into it. Fewer choose to steward that legacy with their own hands, in their own season, on their own terms. Pastor Olusegun “Segun” Bakare is the latter - the eldest son of one of Nigeria’s most consequential clergymen, Dr. Tunde Bakare, who has chosen to plant his own life inside the very ministry his father built, serving as Associate Pastor of The Citadel Global Community Church (CGCC) and shepherding its youth arm, The Legacy Youth Fellowship.

Born into a House of Conviction
Pastor Olusegun Bakare was born into the family of Pastor Babatunde Gbolahan Bakare and Pastor Olayide Bakare, a household that would, over the course of his childhood, become one of the most influential ministry and civic families in Nigeria. His parents married on 24th November, 1984, and their union was blessed with five children, Segun being the firstborn.
He was born at a defining moment in his father’s life. His father had only just left private legal practice in May 1988 to enter full-time Christian ministry, founding The Latter Rain Assembly — now The Citadel Global Community Church — on 1 April 1989. Segun, therefore, did not grow up watching his father build a church from the outside. He grew up inside its formation — a child of the parsonage, present for the humble years before the multibillion-naira complex, the international conferences, and the national political profile that would later come to define the Bakare name.
His mother, fondly known across the CGCC community as **Authentic Mrs. B**, would go on to become the Deputy Serving Overseer of the church — meaning Segun was raised by two parents who were, quite literally, co-pastoring the family alongside the congregation that watched him grow up.
Growing Up in the House of CGCC
The CGCC community has, over the years, spoken warmly and publicly of Segun and his siblings as products of a household defined by both spiritual intensity and ordinary, grounded family life. Of the five Bakare children, Segun — the first son, would go on to serve directly within the church his father built, while his siblings pursued distinct paths: a second son who became an information technology expert based in London, a third son who studied political studies, a first daughter, Olubunmi, who became an Africanist focused on African cultures and history with ambitions toward an academic career, and a second daughter who trained as an interior architect.
Of all five children, it is Segun whose calling led him not away from his father’s ministry but directly into it — choosing to build his vocational life within the same walls where he was raised.

### Ministry Role: Associate Pastor and Communications Director
Today, Pastor Segun Bakare holds two interlinked responsibilities at The Citadel Global Community Church.
He serves as the communications and media director for his father’s church — a role that has placed him at the centre of CGCC’s expanding digital and broadcast footprint. In an era where churches increasingly live online as much as in their physical auditoriums, this is no small portfolio. CGCC’s ministry reach now extends through live service streaming, the globally syndicated *Moment of Truth* broadcast founded by his father, the CGCC Treatise newsletters, and an active digital community across multiple platforms — all of which sit, in significant part, under the communications architecture Segun has helped to build and maintain.
Alongside this, he serves as **Associate Pastor** of the church — a pastoral office that places him directly in the spiritual care and oversight structure of one of Lagos’s most prominent congregations, worshipping in the 5,500-seater auditorium of the Citadel Complex in Oregun, Lagos.

### Shepherding the Next Generation: The Legacy Youth Fellowship
Beyond his communications portfolio, Pastor Segun Bakare’s ministry finds one of its clearest expressions in his connection to **The Legacy Youth Fellowship (LYF)** — the youth arm of The Citadel Global Community Church, built around the mission to raise a generation that loves God, loves people, serves God, and serves people. LYF describes itself with the tagline “Where Stars Are Born And Great Futures Are Created.”
That tagline is not incidental to Segun’s own story. He is, quite literally, a product of the very kind of formation LYF exists to provide — a son raised inside CGCC’s discipleship culture who has now stepped into a position of responsibility for shepherding the generation coming up behind him. Where his father has spent decades speaking prophetically into Nigeria’s governance and national direction, Segun’s assignment is closer to the ground: forming the young people who will carry the Citadel vision into the next generation, mentoring them in identity, character, and Kingdom purpose during their most formative years.

### A Life Lived Publicly, Yet Quietly
What is notable about Pastor Segun Bakare, in contrast to his father’s famously outspoken public profile, is the relatively quiet, behind-the-scenes nature of his own ministry posture. Dr. Tunde Bakare has spent decades as one of Nigeria’s most prophetic, politically engaged, and publicly combative clergymen — a man whose sermons have made national headlines, whose political declarations have shaped news cycles, and whose civic activism helped birth a ruling political party.
Segun’s calling has taken a different shape. His work — communications, media stewardship, youth discipleship, associate pastoral care — is the kind of ministry infrastructure that rarely makes headlines but without which no church of CGCC’s scale could function. He is part of the generation of “PKs” (pastor’s kids) across Nigeria who have chosen not to walk away from the demands of ministry life under a famous parent, but to find their own lane within it — a lane defined less by the pulpit’s spotlight and more by the steady, necessary work of building systems, forming young people, and keeping the digital lights of a global ministry running.

### Part of a Family Legacy
Pastor Segun Bakare’s life cannot be told apart from the broader Bakare family story — one that has become a fixture of Nigerian church and civic life. The CGCC Diaspora Family Fellowship, inaugurated by his father on 10 October 2020, has held international gatherings of “Sons and Daughters of Pastors Tunde and Layide Bakare” — first in Atlanta in 2022/2023, then in London in November 2024 — a testament to the wide spiritual family his parents’ ministry has produced over more than three decades, of which Segun, as firstborn, holds a unique and central place.
His father has continued to expand the institutional footprint of CGCC in recent years — founding the Citadel School of Government in June 2025 in partnership with the University of Lagos Business School, and receiving an honorary Doctor of Laws from Afe Babalola University in October 2024 — milestones that have unfolded with Segun, as communications director, very likely instrumental in documenting, broadcasting, and amplifying for the wider CGCC family and public.
