Halifield Schools, Others Win Big in Dr. Olukoya Choral Contest

Outstanding young musical talents from secondary schools across Nigeria were recently celebrated and rewarded at the Grand Finale of the Dr. D.K. Olukoya Secondary Schools Choral and Solo Competition held on June 20, 2026.

The event brought together students, educators, adjudicators, and supporters of music education in a showcase of creativity, discipline, and artistic excellence. As part of the initiative’s commitment to promoting education and talent development, winners received full-tuition scholarships, cash prizes, and musical instruments.

Halifield Schools, Maryland, emerged as the overall winner, receiving a cash prize of ₦2 million alongside a keyboard. International School, University of Lagos (ISL), secured second place and was awarded ₦1.5 million and a keyboard, while Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary High School claimed third place with a prize of ₦1 million and a keyboard.

Birrel Avenue High School finished in fourth place and received ₦500,000, while CMS Grammar School placed fifth and was awarded ₦250,000. Schools ranked sixth to tenth each received consolation prizes of ₦100,000 in recognition of their outstanding performances throughout the competition.

Organisers commended all participating schools for demonstrating exceptional musical talent, dedication, and excellence during the competition. Special appreciation was also extended to the panel of distinguished judges whose expertise and commitment contributed significantly to the success of the event.

The competition forms part of broader efforts to encourage academic achievement, nurture artistic expression, and provide meaningful opportunities for young people to excel through education and music.

1st Place: Halifield Schools, Maryland — ₦2,000,000 + Keyboard

2nd Place: International School, University of Lagos (ISL) — ₦1,500,000 + Keyboard

3rd Place: Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary High School — ₦1,000,000 + Keyboard

4th Place: Birrel Avenue High School — ₦500,000

5th Place: CMS Grammar School — ₦250,000

6th–10th Place: ₦100,000 consolation prize each

The organisers reaffirmed their commitment to empowering the next generation by investing in educational advancement and the development of musical talent among young Nigerians.
