A Nigerian cleric has called on churches and Christian communicators to intentionally embrace digital platforms for evangelism while encouraging believers to use social media responsibly in ways that reflect biblical values and truth.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns over the increasing spread of misinformation, online hostility, and unethical content across digital platforms, which many church leaders say threaten healthy communication and Christian witness.
Speaking on the importance of communication in today’s technology-driven world, the cleric noted that social media has become one of the most influential tools for reaching people with the Gospel. He stressed that the Church should not ignore digital spaces but instead occupy them with messages of hope, truth, and redemption.
According to him, digital evangelism is no longer optional but an essential part of fulfilling the Great Commission, especially among younger generations who spend significant time online.
He, however, warned that Christians must exercise wisdom in their online interactions by avoiding the spread of false information, hate speech, and content capable of creating division.
The cleric urged believers to verify information before sharing it and to ensure that their online conduct reflects the character of Christ, adding that every post, comment, and message should promote peace, truth, and human dignity rather than conflict or sensationalism.
He also encouraged Christian media practitioners, churches, and digital content creators to produce more faith-based content that inspires spiritual growth and provides credible alternatives to the flood of harmful material circulating on social media.
As digital technology continues to reshape communication worldwide, he maintained that the Church has a unique opportunity to reach millions beyond the walls of traditional church buildings through livestreams, podcasts, videos, articles, and other online platforms.
The call aligns with increasing efforts by churches across Nigeria to strengthen their digital presence and encourage ethical communication rooted in truth, compassion, and the Gospel.
