Nollywood actress Sarah Martins has sparked widespread reactions after revealing that she does not pay tithes, saying she prefers to channel the money toward helping people in need instead.
Speaking during a recent interview, Martins said she believes supporting vulnerable people directly is a more meaningful way of giving than paying tithes to churches led by wealthy pastors.
“Instead of enriching billionaire pastors, I’d rather use that to empower people who don’t know where their help comes from. I don’t pay tithe. What I do is a means of paying tithe,” she said.
The actress, who is also known for her philanthropic activities, said she regularly provides food and assistance to people facing hardship. She disclosed that she has personally funded and prepared meals for large groups of people as part of her charitable efforts.
