The Archbishop Emeritus of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, Cardinal John Onaiyekan, has called on those around President Bola Tinubu to ensure the President receives an accurate assessment of the country’s situation, warning against presenting an overly optimistic picture that does not reflect the realities faced by many Nigerians.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE NEWS, Cardinal Onaiyekan said he was not surprised by the President’s apparent reaction after hearing perspectives that differed from the reports he may ordinarily receive from those within his circle.
“There are so many people around the President with a rosy picture of what the country is. We have the obligation to help him appreciate the reality of the situation in which we have found ourselves,” the cleric said.
The respected Catholic leader stressed that honest feedback is essential for effective governance, particularly at a time when many Nigerians continue to grapple with economic hardship and other national challenges. He suggested that leaders benefit when those around them provide candid assessments rather than shielding them from difficult realities.
