Church Cleans Abia Hospital Premises, Calls for Government Action

LThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Umuahia Nigeria Stake, has carried out a sanitation exercise at the headquarters of the Abia State Hospital Management Board, urging the government to pay greater attention to environmental cleanliness at the facility.

The church members, in partnership with Hallowed Outreach Worldwide Foundation, cleared overgrown bushes and cleaned the hospital management board compound, which had become heavily overgrown with weeds and reportedly attracted reptiles.

According to the Stake President, James Ogbuisi, the church chose the facility as part of its commitment to serving humanity and addressing needs within the community.

He explained that the condition of the premises could pose health risks to patients, visitors and workers, prompting the church to intervene while also calling on the government to take further action to maintain the environment.

The exercise was also supported by the Abia State Environmental Sanitation Agency (ASEPA) and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Speaking during the exercise, Pastor Kanu Ezechi, Residence Pastor of Hallowed Chapel, Accra, Ghana, and West Africa Coordinator of Hallowed Outreach Worldwide Foundation, emphasised the importance of cleanliness, describing it as closely connected to godliness.

The church also disclosed that some participants narrowly escaped snake bites during the cleanup, underscoring the seriousness of the environmental condition at the premises.

The initiative highlights the role of Christian organisations in community development and service beyond the walls of the church, demonstrating that faith can inspire practical action that improves public spaces and contributes to the wellbeing of society.
