The Lagos State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has called for stronger collaboration with faith-based institutions and rehabilitation professionals in the fight against substance abuse.
The call was made during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the NDLEA Lagos State Command to Dr. Daniel Olukoya, General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM), at the church’s International Headquarters.
The delegation was led by the Lagos State Commander, Commander Abubakar Wali Liman, alongside Deputy Commander J.E. Akogwu, Deputy Commander of Narcotics and Drug Demand Reduction (DDR), Titilope Ogunluyi, and other senior officers of the Agency.
The visit was facilitated alongside the leadership of Mountain Top Rehabilitation Centre (MTRC) and was aimed at strengthening partnerships around Drug Demand Reduction (DDR), substance-use prevention, drug education, rehabilitation and prevention science.
According to the team, the Agency recognises the contributions of Dr. Olukoya, MFM and Mountain Top Rehabilitation Centre to efforts aimed at addressing substance use and promoting healthier communities.
During the meeting, the NDLEA leadership sought increased support and collaboration from Dr. Olukoya and the Church, particularly in expanding preventive interventions among young people and vulnerable communities.
The engagement highlights the growing importance of collaboration between government agencies, faith-based organisations and rehabilitation professionals in tackling substance abuse.
With coordinated efforts in prevention, education, rehabilitation and community engagement, stakeholders believe more young people can be protected from the devastating consequences of substance use.
