An unidentified woman has been found dead inside a church premises in the Obelewo area of Osogbo, Osun State, with her left wrist reportedly severed.
The disturbing incident was confirmed by the Nigeria Police Force, which said detectives visited the scene after the discovery of the woman’s body.
According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, preliminary investigations indicated that the woman had allegedly been slaughtered and her left wrist cut off and taken away by unidentified persons.
The police said the motive behind the killing and the circumstances surrounding the incident remained unclear.
“The investigations revealed that the deceased was slaughtered and her left wrist severed and taken away by unknown persons,” the statement said.
The police are also working to establish the identity of the deceased as investigations continue.
Following the discovery, the woman’s remains were taken to a hospital mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to be conducted to assist investigators in determining the circumstances surrounding her death.
The State Command’s Investigation Department has commenced an investigation into the incident, while efforts are ongoing to identify those responsible for the killing and establish the motive behind the gruesome act.
The incident has raised concerns among residents, particularly given the location where the body was discovered.
Police authorities have not indicated that any suspect has been arrested in connection with the case as of the time of reporting.
Investigators are expected to rely on forensic evidence, the autopsy and information from members of the community to unravel the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
